I was at Wal-Mart last week (sorry this is the first chance I've been able to post about it) and I noticed that they're no longer forcing fullscreen down their customers throats, every movie that sold seperately according to aspect ratio was there, both the full screen and widescreen versions! I thought they might have decided to just start doing this with new releases, so I went down the aisle, lo and behold they were all stocked! I was just going to call for a boycott of buying DVDs at Wal-Mart, but now I guess I don't have to! Personally I had never bought DVDs there in the past for that very reason, but I guess now I can take advantage of the low prices. I'm wondering if Wal-Mart noticed their DVD sales going down, or what? Anyone have any news on why they did this?

i never knew that Wal-Mart did that. oh well i barely go shopping at Wal-Mart anyways.

I was just in a Wal-Mart for the first time ever a couple of weeks ago, and all they had was fullscreen. Pretty appalling and I'm not so sad they don't have these in my part of New York.

That's really strange.... Every Walmart in my area has always had both fullscreen and widescreen DVD's, for both new and old releases.

Our WalMarts that I have gone to In Utah all offer both Widescreen and Full Screen versions of the movies. I bought Widescreen Version of Father Of The Bride At Wal Mart.

Just like other people in this thread, my Wal-Mart has always offered both widescreen and fullscreen. The only time I ever ran into a fullscreen problem there was when I went to go buy A.I. and even then the clerk told me that they had widescreen copies but sold out of them. I guess my area's just lucky. We still have Disney Stores AND our Wal-marts offer widescreen, which don't seem to be the case with most people on the boards.

That's strange because I read an article on Widescreen.org that stated Wal-Mart only carried fullscreen DVDs. It was confirmed at my local Wal-Mart and also at a few others. That was then, but now as I've said, they've changed.

Luke, I live in Southern California, so maybe the change hasn't made it up there yet

I'm in Northern California, the S.F. Bay Area to be exact, and as I said before my 7-8 local Walmarts have always had both WS and FS. I've read similar reports before that they only carried FS, but it's never been that way here.

The walmart in my area has always had boths widescreen and fullscreen copies. Where do you all buy your dvds? If we didn't have a walmart a few towns away (i live in Nowhere, MN) I'd never get more then five dvds in 6 months! I love walmart...altho Target is better for the harder to find dvds...altho you have to pay a bit more.

At my Wal-Mart in California, Los Angeles they have both Widescreen and Fullscreen even Costco has both.
Every different location has Widescreen and Fullscreen Fullerton, Anaheim, Orange County, Costa Mesa and City of Industry.
I guess it's available at some Wal-Marts not all of them.
But I say that Super Wal-Marts are better.

Same here. Heck, they used to only have Widescreen until last summer.

I've been DVD-shopping in quite a few Wal-Marts, from NC all the way down to FL, and they've all always had every movie in Full Screen and Wide Screen. Maybe it's a southern thing? Wal-Marts are huge here, and I'm told by friends in NYC and out west that they aren't quite as big a deal in those parts.

The Wal-Mart here always carried both versions. Now they have renovated their electronic department and they have great selection of all kinds of dvds including lots of box sets. Before it was hard to find box sets there, but now they have just about anything I'd want though I still order from deep discount or best buy because they're prices are better.

That's another difference- the prices at our Wal-Marts here are rarely, if ever, beaten by anyone else, including Best Buy. However, in the last year, Wal--Mart's prices have risen slightly, so that they are on a track to being about equal with Best Buy on some things. I'm in BB's Reward Zone, though, so even an extra dollar or two in price makes it worth it for me to go there.

As with many other in this thread, the Walmart in my town has carried both for as long as I can remember. Sometimes I will look for a DVD there, and I can only find it in full-screen, but thats just a coincidence.
