A few news about the release of Aladdin in France...
In addiction of being available in a 2-disc set, Buena Vista Home Entertainement France will dispaly Aladdin in a standard 1-disc Disney DVD, just as the previous "Platinum" titles releases in France.
This set will include the same contents as the 1st disc on the 2-disc set.
Here's the cover art for thiçs standart edition (note that the Collector's Edition should be presented with a diferrent art work) :
But, that's not all...
Another wish will be granted for all the Aladdin fans : the release of a Trilogy DVD Pack, which will include the 3 Aladdin pictures, all in a 1 set : Aladdin, Aladdin - The Return Of Jafar & Aladin And The King Of Thieves.
The release date is set on October 6th, just like the release of the 2 sets of the 1st Aladdin.
At the time, we don't know if the 2 sequels will be available separately, but we guess so...

Isn't Aladdin the 37th Disney Animated Classic in France? They use a different "list" to the UK, US and Australia where Aladdin is No. 31...

Not classic. They number all Animated releases.

It's a shame Disney can't stick to a standard numbering system for their animated movies. The list they're currently using for their "Animated Classics" includes, as far as I can see, eight movies which are not 100% animated and so, perhaps, should not have been included...
I can think of seven other "classic" Disney movies off the top of my head which should have been included but are missing from the list, even though they are packaged in the UK under the "classics" banner!
Very confusing...

In France, the stick number stands for all the animated features, sequels and Pixar movies included.
What changes in France is the "label", in which the movie is considered : "Grand Classique" (almost all the Disney's animated features), "Chef d'Oeuvre" (equivalent of the Platinum titles), "Classique" (the sequels...) and "Disney - Pixar".
To answer to Matty-Mouse, yes the 1st Lion King was released in France in a 1-disc set but later than the original 2 and 3-disc sets, released in October 2003.
Now, these 2 sets have become unavailable, and the 1-disc set is the only one you can find now.

Those are pretty groovy pics, nono. (And if I haven't done so before, welcome to the forum!).
I didn't pick up the OOP Aladdin sequels when I had the chance, so the Trilogy set in addition to the Gift set will make a fine addition to my collection.
Hopefully this will come out in the UK (or even Australia) in the near future. If not, I might have to use Amazon.fr for the first time...

Well, it depends on what you want?
Do you like the sequels? If not just get the Platinum release.
It really isn't that complicated.
Aladdin Trilogy

It looks like the trilogy set includes both discs of Aladdin so that will, no doubt, be the best value for money, especially, as Loomis mentioned, if you like the sequels.
If you already have 'King Of Thieves' on DVD then you could just get the 2 disc 'Aladdin' and wait for 'Return to Jafar' to be issued separatedly - I'm sure it will be soon...

Keep in mind that there is a chance the supplements may be French only.
This would make the set less attractive to those who want movies the added content, and not simply as a collector's item.
If I were to buy this set, it would be a pure extravagance (especially given a similar English language set, or the equivalent discs, will come out), but one designed to make me feel like a contented collector.
