Hello,
I want to know the release dates for the forthcoming Platinum Edition animated classics, all I know is that Aladdin is coming out in October......what movie is next after that??
After Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (and I wonder special features what Disney are planning for 2007, an all new re-remastered re-release?? ) and Sleeping Beauty, my favourites are Pinocchio, Cinderella, 101 Dalmatians.

Well, nothing's set in stone beyond March 2005 even. That may be a tentative release schedule, but by 2008 or so, we very well could be looking at debuts on a new video format. From the way they've spoken at annual conferences, 2007 is the point where they'll have all their animated classics released to DVD. This mentality disregards the 1999 Limited Issues, as they're essentially out of print and now mostly exist only as distant source for the prevalent bootleg market.

WHY??? I dont want a new video format! Stay with DVD! Do they just do this to get more and more money. I personally have spent more than I would like on DVD's. I wouldnt want to upgrade to a new format.

Well, you obviously wouldn't have to upgrade to a new format. The new format would likely be HD-DVD, offering higher resolution and higher disc capacity. These players will play be able to play the DVDs you have now, so if you're satisfied with the DVDs you have, there's no need to spend more for the added benefits.
Disney's released the Platinum Editions on both VHS and DVD, so five years from now, releases could be on DVD and HD-DVD.

And don't forget UD-DVD.
wow I just realized that that can stand for Ultimate Disney DVD as well as Ultra Definition DVD
if HD-DVD is gona be just 720x1280 and look like the screen cap that 2099net posted in another thread, I think I'll skip a format....

I find it really stupid that Disney would even think of starting this line again in HD before we get new copies of Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Fantasia, and (maybe) Sleeping Beauty. I pretty sure what's set in stone is up to March 2006, cause Bambi would have to be starting production for it to be out next March, Then, DVD producers would also be starting Cinderella in what, october perhaps, to get it out in a year's time. I'm sure Peter Pan, Pinocchio and Fantasia wil all get 2-disc SEs just like SB in conjunction with other Platinums. As for HD-DVD, even though Disney seems to be siding more towards the Toshiba/NEC product, I doubt many will. Read this new Blu-Ray report from IGN DVD:
http://dvd.ign.com/articles/524/524681p1.html?fromint=1 I hope Disney chooses Blu-Ray for it's next format. I truly doubt that anyone in 2008 will still be using VHS. It'll probably just stop production like LD as soon as HD starts really going (2010 maybe?). AS for UD, I think it would be really stupid to not get HD because UD will come out eventually. Either you get with the times, or get out. That's like an old grampa keeping his 50's RCA Color Television, because he knows something new and betters gonna come out. We all know that we're going to update at some point, so why even discuss this? W/E, Disney needs better and more solid management so we can start getting Deluxe Disney Archive 4K Blu-Ray Collection sets for each of their Animated Classics (yes, even The Black Cauldron)!

thanks for the blue-ray link yoda-four! It's good news to me
When I say I'll skip a format if the HD-DVDs are just 720x1280 what I mean is I'll probably not buy many cus the diference between those and the current DVD format is really not too much. Fantasia on those HD-DVD's would only have 66% more data than on the DVD I have now. That's the difference between a 20"TV and a 26"TV in size. Not much. The jump between VHS (or even LD) and DVD was much bigger, not just because of resolution but because it also jumped from analog composite to digital component and added mutltichannel and several other features. So I'd probably buy Platinum HD's instead of DVD's if they were new titles and released simultaneously with DVDs.. Let's hope
Blu-ray mpeg4 wins over hd mpeg2 and we get something better.

I read that HD-DVD adopted Mpeg-2, MPeg-4 and Windows VC-9, and that Blu-Ray currently has only official stated they're using m-peg 2. It's basically equal, because Blu-ray has more space so it doesn't need more compression. HD-DVD has less space, so it needs more compression, if my head's screwed on right.

I totaly agree I think its Stupid to start something new when the first chore has yet to be finshed. And I agreewi would not want to upgrade after all the money I have spent on DVDs. And I mean will it really be worth it ? There is a Big difference between DVD and VHS.

DVD compared to VHS was a much better product, whereas the only difference between HD-DVD and regular DVD will be tighter ripping rules (something like dat), more resolution, and everything fitting all on one disc. Not all that special to me.....

Well- if Hd-DVD is backward compatible to DVD the new format is not a total disaster, bu every body is just getting used to the DVD format.
