Buffy Resurrected in Animation

Defunct TV show Buffy The Vampire Slayer is set to be resurrected as a cartoon. Although Sarah Michelle Gellar will not reprise her leading role in the new series, creator Joss Whedon has reportedly recruited Giselle Loren - the video-game voice of Buffy - to speak for her in the pilot. Cast members Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendon and Anthony Stewart Head are returning to voice the animated versions of their characters.

So not only did Gellar refuse to return for the Angel finale, but any associated spin-off?

Is it just me or is she showing complete contempt for the franchise that actually made her a name in the first place (and IMO, she wasn't even the best thing about the show).
Gee, and hasn't her star just risen without it?

Still, an animated series would be good - as long as they don't take a kiddie approach with it, and go for more of an adult anime kind of thing...in which case it could be very cool.

And she's not on any of the DVD supplements (we can state, now that all seasons have been released). She was in the A&E special documentary on S6, but that doesn't count as it was a TV show first.

The only reason why Sarah Michelle Gellar refuses is because she's probably doing Scooby-Doo 3 or a new film right now. The only thing Sarah Michelle Gellar cares about right now is her stardom and left her history behind her. I wonder what network will pick up Buffy, the Vampire Slayer: The Animated Series I'm thinking Nickelodeon, Fox, Kids WB, FX or Cartoon Network. I really hope it survives to make at least 4 seasons on television.

Whoa...! Wait a sec, guys. There's a LOT of misinformation on this thread! SMG did NOT refuse to appear in the "Angel" finale. She was all ready to do it, but last-minute rewrites cut her part out of it. It had nothing to do with her!

Just because she's not doing the cartoon doesn't mean anything...maybe they weren't going to pay her enough, or maybe she simply doesn't have the time, as she is busy with feature gigs.

SMG has also made it clear that she would be interested in any feature film versions of Buffy/Angel, as did David Boreanaz.

A little something I call the Duchovny effect! :D

Well, she MAY have not been able to appear in the last few supplements because of other engagements, but we have seen a systematic shunning of her fanbase and the thing which, you know, made her a star.

I think 'net's Duchovny comparison is apt - he got too "big" for the series, but was willing to do features.
