What movie do you think is the most underrated or deserves much more attention?

Fox and the Hound gets my vote! It's a great movie and, surprisingly, hardly anyone seems to remember it! I haven't seen it in years, but I have the old audio read-along, and I actually listened to it last week: can you believe I got a little teary-eyed when over the breeze you hear, "And we'll always be friends, forever..."

Well, since I don't really consider The Rescuers or The Fox and the Hound to be "underrated", my vote is for The Great Mouse Detective.

Wow, out of those "underrated movies" you've actually listed a bunch of my top choices :P

I voted for Great Mouse Detective is one of my new faves. I think it is pure fun mixed with great storytelling and a terrific villain (with a brilliant voice by Vincent Price). It is often forgotten (being a few years before the new golden age of Disney), but a worthy addition to the Masterpiece collection. It is also a hint of what was about to come - the same team did my staple favourites a few years later if I'm not mistaken - The Little Mermaid and Aladdin.

Black Cauldron would be a close 2nd in the underrated poll. I remember devouring the books by Lloyd Alexander as a lad, and although the film is not a faithful adaptation of them, I still think the story is great and marks
an interesting point in Disney history. The trouble surrounding this film would make a great subject for a special edition documentary.

I have to say I don't see Alice or Rescuers as underrated, but they are in my Top 10 as well.

And what if it WAS, Luke?

No, I can assure you. Nothing like that passes my ears.

Unless I'm in a clothing shop and they are playig it over and over and over again.

I picked "The Great Mouse Detective". A great little film! Clever story and great voice talent. It deserved more than just being credited as "the first movie produced by the creators of Little Mermaid and Aladdin". The film was a little hit when it was released (specially considering the big flop that "Black Cauldron" was, and it helped to open the doors to the future blockbusters.

I went with "Alice In Wonderland" but I think "Basil The Great Mouse Detective" is just as good.

I love the pacing with Basil the section from when Ratigan kidnapp's Olivia the second time round to the ending just keeps you on the end on you seat with every second of action great.

I have to say I also love Robin Hood and The Rescuers and The Black Cauldron has its moments but the other films mentioned (Espically The Aristocats) I'm really not very fond of, I like them and most have a few good moments but their not great Disney.

What more could you ask for in an animation classic: hilariously, classic characters, great songs that are still snappy as an adult, along with an evil butler. My choice was not a difficult one. I would choose the Aristocats.

The Black Cauldron of course, since the Horned King is something very unusual in a Disney film
Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty is in the same caliber.

I went with Alice in Wonderland, as that was an option on the post, but I must mention Hunchback of Notre Dame, as too many people pass over this one, w/o watching it. Hunchback is a great Classic, just as with Hunchback, I believe too many people are all too dismissive of Alice, w/o giving it a fair chance.

Underrated means it hasn't got the acknowledgement it deserves. It wouldn't think that Rescuers is underrated, but it is! Most reviewers say the sequel is superior or just as good as the original, when to me that is not the case. The Rescuers is a true classic with lots of heart.

The Fox and the Hound is also a great american film, just see it as a metaphor of a Civil War story. It is totally relevant to US history.
