In the same spirit of the New DVD Thread, I thought it'd be cool if everyone posts what they're reading when they start on new books (no spoilers!). It'll kind of let us all see other people's tastes, I think.

I just finished up The Color Purple and Glorious Appearing and am now beginning Angels and Demons by Dan Brown.

Right now I'm reading "The lord Of The Rings - Return of the King".

I read Lord of The rings once each year...I read it for the first time about 3 years ago and have read it every year since.

I really want to read Mirror Mirror by Gregory Maguire, and H-The Story of Heathcliff's Journey Back to Wuthering Heights by ???.

I have a problem.

I start a book and never have time to finish the damn thing. Over the past three years I have started numerous history books but have yet to finsh one. Titles include:

The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich (1,500+ pages)
Scourge of the Swastika: A Short History of Nazi War Crimes (254)
Southern Invincibility: A History of the Confederate Heart (432)
Chickamauga and Chattanooga: The Battles that Doomed the Confederacy (267)
and
Lee (601)

I've started them all because I have a huge interest in both WWII and the Civil War, but also because I've kicked around numerous book ideas myself and they are all part of my research. Alas, I have yet to finish one yet, not for lack of interest, but because life keeps getting in the way

I read most of The World Since 1945: A Brief History by Daniel Brower. Very good read. I know it's post-WWII, but it goes back to look at WWII's legacy a lot (of course, given that the Cold War is a large chunk that legacy), so you might want to check it out if you ever finish the others, lol.

War Against the Weak: Eugenics and America's Campaign to Create a Master Race by Edwin Black

I've started to read Dracula again, having got a free copy with the SFX Magazine Horror Special - however it is hard going and like when I last read it (about 15 years ago) I'll probably end up skipping over a lot of pages.

I don't tend to read a lot of fiction anymore. I read this month's Total DVD magazine last night. Does that count?

Strangely, I am reading Dracula again for the exact same reason, but it is also a re-read so I guess it doesn't count.

I just finished Brad Meltzer's Zero Game - a guilty pleasure. A real page-turner/thriller, but what the hell. I like his other writing, especially stuff he has done in the comic book world (Green Arrow etc).

Simultaneously with Dracula, I'm reading I, Robot by Asimov (very slender text, so it won't be simultaneous for long). After that I have a few things lined up (Da Vinci Code, which I don't really want to read because 'everybody' is, and I'm a snob; and Our Band Could Be Your Life)

I'm also reading:
- Ultimate X-Men; Ultimate Spider-man; Green Arrow; Identity Crisis; Supreme Power; X-Statix (this week's comics....)

I've been taking my time re-reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. HARRY POTTER is PUNK ROCK!!!

I don't know about punk rock, but I do love them. I've read the first four books 5 times each, and listened to the audio books twice each. I've only read the 5th one once (and no audio tape), and it's due for a re-read. It'll have to stand in line, though.

That's actually what I'm reading right now, Aaron. Order of the Phoenix - it's only the second time I've read it, though. I did a marathon three-day reading of Prisoner of Azkaban right before the film came out, so it felt kinda weird skipping over a volume. LOL
Totaled, I believe I've read each book twice now. I would like to listen to the aduio versions, but I want to see if the library has them available - buying them is out of the question. They're so dang expensive! O_o It'd also be interesting to see how much of the Spanish editions I could understand, if I tried. ~_^

Think I'll list the others I want to read soon a bit later - there's so many of 'em. O_o

I nearly finished Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban to refresh myself for the movie. It confused me a lot because a lot was changed, but it was still a great movie. I started my school summer reading. I chose Jude the Obscure and Mists of Avalon, but I'm not really looking forward to either. Jude the Obscure isn't too bad, but its just so...uneventful. I hope it gets better. Mists of Avalon is REALLY REALLY BIG! I'm thinking of changing to a shorter book. I also plan to read Wicked if I can muster the money to buy it and miss buying a DVD.

I want to read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire over again to inspire my writing. Yes, silly me had earlier got sucked into FanFiction.com (If you want to find my profile, my penname is the same as the name you see to your left above the avatar, which is currently Kermit the Frog ). I started a fun almost-novel of Harry Potter at Disney World that takes place the summer after Goblet of Fire and I stopped writing at Chapter 33. Then I joined this site in January and haven't found time to write for FanFiction. I really want to rewrite some parts since they're dry or mawkish or unbelievable (they do almost all of Magic Kingdom in one day. Ha!) . Also, it seems to be more of a movie rather than a book, like it would work better as a movie. With school now over, I hope to finish it.

Well now that I am out of school I can actually pick what I want to read and do it for pleasuer so I am excited. I am cuerrently reading this novel called This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen its pretty sad about a girl who doesnt know how to love and has become bitter her mom getts married like a person switches hobbies so far its pretty good.

Next up for me will be 100 years of Soluitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Hey! 3 of your 5 are on my Next-5-To-Read list! (Angels, DaVinci, Fish)

Paka- I got them from the library, too. They have CD and tape, and I tried both for different books, but came to the conclusion that for audio books, cassette tapes are preferable... it's easier to stop them for a while and come back to them, whereas you have to keep up with track # and time with a CD. Jim Dale (Doc Terminus, Pete's Dragon) reads them in different voices, and quite masterfully! Hope you enjoy.
