Ok I have a quick question.
I heard that Julie Andrews was going to be singing in Diaries 2

.
I know she had that throat surgery and she wasn't susposed to be able to sing anymore....
So I just wanted to know if anyone knew if this was true or not?
I hope she is able to sing again, I felt so sorry for her when I found out she wasn't susposed to be able to anymore. I remember her going on a late night talk show and the host wanted to hear her singing abilities, she wouldn't sing of course and you could tell that it upset her.
So I do hope this is true as that would make me really want to see this movie.

Yes, she does sing, for the first time since her surgery if I'm not mistaken. I forget what the song is called, but apparently she sang so beautifully she made the cameramen cry. We discussed this in another thread a couple of weeks ago, but I don't know which one!

I am so glad I've read the reviews so that I can use my PD2 ticket from the PD SE & see something else. Rottentomatoes has 19 reviews 16 negative & the positive are very lukewarm. 2 of the funniest are: Who Greenlit this project? And Why? & If you only have one month to live-see this movie (because every minute will seem like an eternity). Roger Ebert said the same thing he said about Cinderella Story "wait until August 24th & buy Ella Enchanted."
He gave it 1 1/2*. Live action movies have not been kind to Disney this year. Although I liked 80 Days & I even liked Alamo. Village put me to sleep. This one though sounds like a royal horror.

The New York Times' review was pretty negative. If it really is bad, all the blame, of course, lies with Raven being in the movie.

Aww, Luke, Why'd you have to put the blame on Raven? Now I can't blame it on Eisner.
Oh well, I will anyways.

Well I havent seen the movie yet. I am going tomorrw and I loved the first one. I usally dont even bother what the reviewers have to say and half the time i have noticed when they give a movie negavtie reviews it really is better then they say.

Wait... you can use the ticket for another movie??
Hmm. I may be going to see PD2 tonight. What did critics say about the first one? I generally don't care what they think, as it is almost never based on the right things (but then that's getting into a bigger issue, what I think of critics).

I'm going to be seeing this Sunday and if this does suck, I won't care because I'm seeing it for free thanks to the free ticket in my SE of the first one. I did notice that although this looked cute, it didn't look as good as the original. Still, I want to see it because a) I loved the original and b) most of the cast and crew have returned. I'm not listening to Ebert on this one because he gave that same star and a half rating to the original, so if he's implying that the sequel is equal to it, then I'm perfectly fine with that.

Reviewers have their own agenda too, so it COULD be really good as well.
I have no interest whatsoever as both films appear to be bland rehashes of old storylines. However, before one judges a film, one should at least see it. Especially if they are going to say it is the worst (Disney) film of 2004.
Disney fans really are their own worst enemies. "What, the reviews suck? Oh well, guess I won't see it. Gee that Eisner has driven Disney into the ground."
After all The Sacremento Bee can't be that wrong, can it?

As for how to see a different movie it's simple. 16 movie cineplex. Ticket gets you in the door and unless there is a major movie that has sold out (Harry Potter, Spider-Man 2...) they don't care really what movie you see. They got their $6 for the matinee.
Although Ebert gave the original a negative review I seem to remember the majority of reviews being extremely positive. I loved the original. Since I won't be going for a few days (got a little thing called Hurricane Charley heading right for my home) I'll wait & read on the several message boards I frequent if it is as bad as all but 15% say at rottentomatoes. I don't always follow the reviewers though. As I said I really liked 80 Days & Alamo (critics & most viewers didn't).

I was going to see it on opening night. But a friend of mine sent me a review. And After I read it, I will not be going to see it. It all looks good except for one thing. Raven is in it run for your lives. She drives me up the wall. She is so over-rated.

As Joe Carioca pointed out, the reviews for the first film weren't too hot either. I'll be going to see this tomorrow with my free ticket, so if I end up not liking it, the only thing I'll have wasted is time (which I have too much of anyways).
I'll just be sure to keep my expectations reasonably low.

I tend to like movies that only get 2 stars or less

The majority of movie reviewers in newspapers are "old fogies" who can't appreciate a light hearted fun movie. They reserve their 4 and 5 star ratings for movies that are really complex or have already recieved so much pre-hype that it would be a crime for them not to go with the flow and give it a good rating too.
I didn't go see Princess Diaries 2 with my free ticket today, cuz I'm not feeling that well so I will probably go tomorrow or Friday when they have more showings of it.
I don't expect that it will be as good as the first one, but I'm sure it can't be all that bad.

As others have pointed out, the original never got very good reviews, and movies of this genre seldomly get them either. Ironically, the worst-reviewed Disney film of the year will probably do the best (aside from Incredibles), since the target audience doesn't really pay attention to critics anyway.
In the end, I think reviewers take the movie too seriously. Yeah, its not original and its completely fluffy, but that's what its intended to be - fun fluff for girls.

I'm going to see The Princess Diaries 2 on Saturday and the only thing I hate about the previews is Raven.
Raven is the worst actress in history.

I am sorry but when i read stuff like this I can not help but to laugh. Hahahahah Nobody seems to really like Raven. Which not to change the subject when is her show going to be over?

I do have to say that Raven does weaken the movie. She should stay in her tv show. She looks and sounds so fake in the previews of the movie. Like the duet with julie she just looks soooo FAKE! I'll prob. still go see it but I know what to expect now. never know I tend to like what the critics don't .....
