Check the news for all the information. Thanks for the update Luke!
While I am glad that we are getting Cinderella on DVD I was really looking forward to The Little Mermaid as it is my favorite Disney film. I figure that Disney wants to release the "First time on Disney DVD" titles first. With this news I guess we can almost gurantee that TLM will be released in March of 2006 (that seems so long!) I am just glad that the debate has finally been confirmed over which title will be released first.

I'm glad Disney has decided on Cinderella first, as you've said it hasn't yet been released on DVD so it's only fair.
My guesses for 06 are
Sping:The Jungle Book
Fall:The Little Mermaid

This is a suprise, as I was *really* expecting Little Mermaid for fall 2005, and I kind of wanted it then so as to complete my set of the Fab Four. But it's a lock for March 2006 now, so, what's another six months? Especially if we get Cinderella on DVD -- such a great, great picture. I could ramble on about how great it is, but I think we all already know that. It does seem appropriate as it hasn't been on DVD before.
So, while I would've rather had Little Mermaid first...I'm very excited to see Cinderella finally coming! That will have been exactly 10 years to the week since its most recent VHS release -- October 3, 1995.
(Unfortunately, we can all expect "Nightmares Come True" to be reissued then, as well. I wouldn't be suprised if it was spine numbered like Beauty and the Beast

.)
Still, while Mermaid would seem to be locked in for March 2006, for some reason that seems like a fall title to me. It would sell mammoth numbers in any slot, but I still think that's something they would want to roll out as part of their fall slate for some reason. So maybe it's October 2006? I hope it's March, but instinct tells me October.
If it is that way, then I'd think Jungle Book would be March, and then they can have some big promotion about 2007 going to the dogs and tie in the March and October releases of Lady and the Tramp and 101 Dalmatians, or vice versa; though I'd prefer those to Jungle Book, it would be kind of a neat marketing campign concept to tie those two together. Plus, Jungle Book is great too, and as long as we get a Platinum in March and October of every year through 2007, we win no matter what comes. So...yay for Cinderella!

I am looking foward to Cinderella, but I too am upset that our Little Mermaid is having her Platinum dvd pushed back

. If Ariel doesn't get her release by fall 2006, I am literally going to cry!

The Disney store better still have a promo offer four our Mermaid with lithos plush and pin!!!! AND a litho frame as well!!!!!!! Wow....ok... I guess you can see that this news is somewhat bothering me

I mean I really like Cinderella, a lot, it's a wonderful movie, but I was REALLY hoping that The Little Mermaid would be the fall 2005 release

It would have been so perfect for me because I'm graduating high school in June 05, so it would have been a perfect "after graduation" present to myself.

sigh..........I guess my beloved mermaid will have to wait another year, and Cinderella will have to become my present to myself for post-graduation.

While I can't wait for TLM I would rather see Jungle Book and 101 Dalmations neither of which I have seen in years.

I like it better this way.
I'd rather Disney pushes the older films for release first. I want to see Pinnochio, Lady & The Tramp & 101 Dalmations next.

No surprise for me. Since "Cinderella" has never been released on DVD before, I see no reason for Disney releasing it after "The Little Mermaid".
Even though I preffer "Mermaid", I already have it on DVD, so I can wait a little.

The release types say that the definites for 2005 are
Bambi and
Cinderella. That's fine with me cuz we havent had many 2 disc sets for the older classics in a while.
The system is a bit ridiculous if Disney is planning to distribute high definition DVDs in a few more years. They should just get the Plantinum Editions out quicker (like every four months so we can have three a year and not be completely bombarded)

I'm EXTREMELY happy over this news. I love The Little Mermaid to death, but I want Cinderella first and I'm glad we're getting it. Cinderella's been on my most wanted list ever since I first discovered DVD and it'll finally be mine.

I'm sad that The Little Mermaid is going to be on DVD in Fall 2006.
But the good thing is that Bambi (March 2006) and Cinderella (October 2006) will be relase for the first time on DVD!!!
I guess The Jungle Book will come out in March 2006 and The Little Mermaid in October 2006.
Now only if we knew if 101 Dalmatians or Lady and the Tramp will come out in March or October.
I guess Lady and the Tramp will come out in March 2007 and 101 Dalmatians in October 2007 since it's better then LATT.

I wouldn't say it's better, it's just more popular. That's how it seems they will be releasing them, with the more popular movie in the fall. Just wondering, why does everyone think Jungle book will be the in March 06? I think it might be Lady and the Tramp. I know someone said that they could market the two "dog" movies together, but I kinda don't think they would do that. It seems that Disney tries to market different types of their movies together. Example, Sleeping Beauty and Lion King dvds from this past fall are two very different movies.

As much as I don't want to think it, I can't help but have the feeling, like a few others here, that the Little Mermaid will be released in October 2006 rather then March. Like Mermaid Kelly said, the more popular movies appear to be released in the Fall (in time for Christmas shoppers).
Another thing I was thinking was that the Jungle Book 2 may be rereleased as a special edition to go with the Jungle Book Platinum, whenever that may be...

That could be possible that Disney might re-relase The Jungle Book 2 asa Special Edition so it could boost it's sales with The Jungle Book Platinum.
I really think The Jungle Book will come out in March 2006.

Look on the bright side- It could be the first Disney HD-DVD!!!

I highly doubt that. since they have to release it on regular DVD. I dont think many people will upgrade to HD-DVD quickly. And by the drama over what laser to use, I don't see HD-DVD coming out anytime soon.

It's great to hear that Cinderella will see the light of day soon. I"m really looking forward to both Bambi and Cinderella next year. They are both movies I haven't seen in a long time. Okay, actually I think I saw Cinderella few months ago, but it will be great to own it on DVD. Bambi, I haven't seen in ages! I am really looking forward to that. I don't care in what order the next ones come out, as long as they do.

I was waiting to complete my Awesome Foursome too, but with Cinderella and Bambi, I'm not complaining. The schedule I'm not too worried about, as long as they are all good-quality releases, and we get them eventually.

As much as I love Cinderella, and it's a great deal, "The Little Mermaid" is my favorite movie ever and having to wait one more year for it is a complete torture

I wish they'd change it!

I agree with you there MMB, all the talk about a new format is just media talk. The VHS player were the big thing for over 20 years, and I don't belive there will be any new format before there has been atleast 10 years time.
The avarage user will see no reason at all to upgrade from a regular DVD to a HD-DVD or BlueRay or whatever the companies are talking about right now.
The avarage user only have a DVD player and a TV set, why should they want a HD-DVD?
