‘Animorphs’ TV Series in Development at Disney+, Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media to Produce (EXCLUSIVE)

Bayan Wolcott is attached to write and executive produce the adaptation, with Ryan Coogler, Sev Ohanian, and Zinzi Coogler executive producing on behalf of Proximity Media. Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman executive produce via Scholastic, with Scholastic having published the books on which the show is based. 20th Television is the studio. Proximity Media’s Simone Harris, vice president and head of TV, and Dezi Gallegos, director of development of TV, will also oversee the project.

The official logline states that the show “follows a group of teenagers who uncover a hidden threat lurking beneath their everyday lives, all while juggling relationships, curfews, and the chaos of High School.”

It sounds like it may be a smart move. I've been observing a lot of nostalgia surrounding this series among people my age. I myself haven't read the books in at least fifteen years, so I can't fairly gauge my own feelings toward the property, but I'm intrigued even so.

Cautiously optimistic about this. I was bummed when plans for that movie fell through, but it was for the best if they weren't going to treat the property with much respect to the source material, and wanted to just use K.A applegate and get her "involved" for the sake of marketing but didn't even want to listen to her opinions on the general direction. Once she and michael grant stepped away I think most fans saw the writing on the wall.

I never did finish the books, but I read a good half of them. I just kind of lost my place at one point, and the books became harder and harder to find to continue in order, so I just kinda stopped. I need to figure out where I left off and actually finish them. I did get spoiled on the fate of a particular character accidentally in the early days of the internet, so that also soured me a bit on wanting to finish them. But I will say, even as someone who never reads anything, this series was the one book series I thoroughly enjoyed reading, and its hard to explain just how mature and deep the series gets at certain points to someone who's never given them a shot. They just see the memes of the silly covers and probably come to their own conclusions, never grasping that this is a series about child soldiers, lots of near death scenarios and body gore. Its gonna get toned down for sure in a Disney series, but I hope its done tastefully.

I was one of the minority of fans that loved the nickelodeon series, but its been long overdue for a new one with modern effects and production values, and I think a tv series is much better suited to explore the ip than a movie ever could.

There's just way too much story to even begin fitting into single movie, or even a trilogy (if it ever got successful enough to warrant one).

If anyone needs/wants to know more about the series without having to read it, I cant recommend this video enough.
You're gonna laugh at the length of this being longer than a feature length movie, but its so dense with all the info you could ever want on the series. Just to give you a taste. Even if you only skim through a bit, its worth checking out.
