The Snow White discussion sort of fell to the wayside, but I really liked your idea, so I thought I'd post one for the next movie (chronologically), Pinocchio. I don't mean to steal your thunder! I just wanted to keep this going.

all I had was a recorded-onto-blank-VHS copy of Pinocchio but the film broke off the tape and it never got fixed. Looks like I'll have to wait for the Plantinum Edition

I miss the Limited Issue and the Gold Collection of Pinocchio and now that the Platinum Edition is coming out I will not miss that one.
The other first two are single disc.
The Platinum Edition will have two discs.
I really like Pinocchio it was long and very well written along with much creativity.
Pinocchio has so many enemies and so little friends.
I really like the song "When you wish upon a star.
This is a really great classic and that's no lie!!!

Oh yeah! Great idea to revive this thread! Plus, it just so happens that I watched Pinocchio last night, so this is perfect timing for me!

I really enjoyed it. It was the first time I had seen it since I was young, and I was astounded. The visuals were great- there were some very creative shots, like when Jiminy jumps on the fox's head, and when we seen the whale open his mouth from the inside. Plus, the songs are just wonderful - When You Wish Upon a Star, Little Wooden Head, Give a Little Whistle, Hi Diddle Dee Dee, and I've Got No Strings. Also, like Snow White, some of the scenes were downright creepy, and I remember being scared by some of the images when I was a child- for example, the scene when Lampwick turns into a donkey, and the scene when the whale chases Gepetto and Pinocchio. Probably my favorite part about the film, other than the songs, is Jiminy Cricket. He makes me smile. He brings a lot of humor to an otherwise serious film, and is a very likeable character.

I am very anti-Pinocchio. I find it highly disturbing and terrible. I suppose most love it cause it is a staple of Disney and and well animated, but I find the story very twisted and dark, this is one disney animated classic that I do NOT like, however, I will probably buy it, when it comes out as a Platinum, who knows, I may have a completely different view point on it at that time...

Not many things disturb me, but this film certainly does, and for reasons I don't know if I can really explain, I have very strong antgonistic feelings about this movie, I seriously don't know why it is so damn popular!

"Pinocchio" may not be one's favourite Disney film, but it can be argued that this technically is one of the very best. When "Pinocchio" was made Disney was in the middle or at the top of the Golden Age. "Pinocchio" may be dark and disturbing to some, but that doesn't make it a bad film - that may even make it more interesting to some of us.

I also would like to note that this film felt much "older" than Snow White. It's fascinating to look at how dark animation was at its beginning. It's creepy yet mysterious all at once.

I have watched Pinocchio so many times, because it's my little sister's favorite movie, and she watches it about four or five times a day!
I like Pinocchio, the songs are good, animation is great, it's one of my favorites.
Although...I watch it so much with my sister that I am starting to get sick of it But it's still a great film.

The songs and the animations are great as well as the plot. I especially like the introduction of Kimny Cricket, who became a staple character, and When You Wish Upon a Star, became a staple song.

It's been a long while since I've sat down and watched Pinocchio in depth. However, last year at WDW, I saw it, but only sort of in the background. I remember it well from my childhood, though. It's a beautiful film with beautiful animation. The opening shots of the village are so sightly. The story and music is great too, of course, and "When You Wish Upon A Star" is one of my favorite Disney songs.

It does feel a lot older than Snow White, maybe older than any Disney film except Dumbo. I'm not really sure why that is, and it may just be that I'm used to the restored Snow White version now, and haven't seen such restorations for Pinoke and Dumbo.

I realize that because of the current limited availabilty of this title, it might be a bit harder for some people to discuss it, but I think most of us have seen it enough, even from years ago. (That must be true, since it made it to the final 5 in the Survivor game!).

I havent seen Pinocchio in a really long time I don't remember very much of it. It wasn't really one of my favorites otr anything. However I do recall the opening scene it was one of my favorites Jimney Cricket made the move for me. And I always thought the Fairy God mother was so cool to watch. And the song "When you Wish Upon a Star" its timeless. a great movie. Now that I am out of school I'll make sure to take some time out and watch it again.

Oh, and I meant to comment on the darkness. For some reason, I really that about the first two Disney flicks. I think it gives them sort of a distinguishing edge and makes them feel more, real, in some ways. Of course, the original fairy tales were pretty dark themselves, so it makes sense. I appreciate the boldness of it, I suppose.

But that's not to say that all the Disney classics should be so dark. It wouldn't fit with a lot of the stories, but Pinocchio is one of those (along with Snow White) that really does.

Pinocchio is a very heartwarming and funny film. It's definitely one of Disney's best. I just picked up the Region 2 Special Edition DVD a couple of days ago, but although it's better than all of the previous releases, the extras are still too little and there are still specks of dust on the film.

Pinocchio is a good movie...and that's it. It's just good. I mean, I never fell in love with it. The art isn't something I particularly like, and it's not a movie I'd want to watch again and again. Although, the songs are really good, and I just love Figaro(is that how you spell it?)!

I just love this movie. Pinocchio is a funny scary exciting sad movie. It is a classic and it deserves it's status as a classic.

I have the Region 2 Special Edition from Japan, not the PAL version. I am wondering after reading your post whether or not the Japanese version is different than any of the others. The quality is breathtaking, so much more clarity and detail than any other version I have seen. There are no specks of dust anywhere, it looks flawless. It's definately different than any U.S. version. It was released several months after the PAL version. Could it be the best one available?

Yeah, well I'm beginning to wonder if the PAL version had a new restoration too. First the featurette was dropped, and now this comment from you. It's possible the "improvements" (because there are improvements over the old version) are just the result of tweaking the colour and encoding of the old master.

No, it wasn't tweaking the color, the Japanese DVD is obviously a completely new remasterd job.

I remember since I was about 3 months old, my parents took me to the movies to see the re-release of "Pinocchio". That was the first movie I saw at a theater in Brooklyn, NY. The movie was preceded by a short film "The Small One". I missed the first several minutes of the featurette before the main feature film.

"Pinocchio" brings back so many memories. I remember the first time I saw it, Jiminy Cricket sang "When You Wish Upon a Star" brings a tear to my eye. It was a great film from beginning to end. After I saw the entire movie, he sang the song towards the end as the curtain closes where the "End Title" covers it. A lot of people had some applause as they exit the theater and my parents took me home to my parents house.

What a flashback! I first saw that film back in December of 1978, the same year as the featurette "The Small One" came out. That was three months after I was born.

That's brings back memories, I started to become a Disney fan since I was a baby until now. "Pinocchio" was one of the first Disney films I've ever seen.

Well, I was reading Bambi's review here, and according to what I read Pinnochio's a dark Italian Fairytale, so you can kind of see why Disney made it "dark and Twisted".
