Disney is so confident in “Lilo & Stitch” that it is already thinking about sequels. “It feels like it’s going to work very well, and it’s the kind of property that lends itself to more,” said Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman, who oversees the company’s film business.
Retail sales of Stitch products grew to $2.6 billion in Disney’s 2024 fiscal year from $200 million five years earlier, according to the company. “Lilo & Stitch” is now one of Disney’s 10 bestselling franchises. Those numbers helped convince Disney to remake the film, a decision that further stoked its popularity on store shelves and streaming. Since announcing the remake, “we’ve seen the thing explode from a Disney+ and consumer-products perspective,” said Bergman.

They need to do it fast because eventually the actress will grow up.

Fingers crossed it will do Snow White numbers (very unlikely tho)
I watched its iconic competition instead (Bloodlines) and so happy i spend money on a movie that feels original enough and not literally the same movie in a different Medium. This being said, Bloodlines was clearly not as good as the first 3 entrys

That’s a good point. By the time this movie gets into production, the little girl playing Lilo will look a lot older.
Perhaps they will lean into that, perhaps they will recast, perhaps they’ll take a page out of all those Lilo and Stitch spin-offs that pair Stitch with an entirely different kid.
I was really hoping, even after the impending success of this film, that they would still hold their horses on more remakes, but that was naive of me.

I never thought the remakes were going away. The only thing I'm surprised by is they haven't started doing it with Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., The Incredibles, etc., particularly since DreamWorks has started to get in on the easy $$$. HtTYD looks pretty good, too.

Well, that was a big surprise

But yeah, if they`re considering making sequels, they should definitively make one very fast, due to how Maia Kealoha will grow soon.

L&S is one of those properties like Aladdin where, for whatever reason, coming up with more plots seems pretty easy.
Scrolled by my post from a few months ago above, and I thought it was worth repeating--I wonder why they haven't started to remake Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Monsters, etc. at this point? They're almost to the end with what they could do with WDAS properties. After Hercules, Tangled, Moana, Frozen (and their sequels), I could really only see Tarzan getting re-made if they were willing to buy the rights. No point if they cut the soundtrack, but looking at what's happened for the benefit of Hercules, Tangled, and L&S thanks to the failure of Mulan, TLM, and SW because they cut songs / characters aplenty and featured massive design or story changes and so on, perhaps they would realize by now that the only thing appealing about another Tarzan film is if it was obviously a remake of the Disney version (with those designs, music).
Besides that, maybe a remake of TP&TF? Personally, I think it's another like SW and Hercules where all the cards need to be played correctly because the best is a moderate success not a massive one like with Moana / Frozen. I doubt they could screw it up as bad as they did with SW (as far as how they began the discourse around that film with cutting the Dwarfs and the music, they could never recover from that), so maybe a theatrical release wouldn't be too impossible. I think TP&TF is another one like Tangled where there are little things that could improve the film, actually. I'm still fond of the idea that they should've had Tiana and Naveen changing form every time they kissed. For example, she turns to a frog and he turns into a human in that scene where they first meet, then she turns human and him back into a frog, and so on 'til the ending when they're both finally human the same time again. Then of course Encanto, but I think they'd wait until an Encanto 2 to see if the film's merchandise success is a fluke and the box office of the original wasn't just because of the pandemic.
But anyway, it's really mystifying why they haven't turned to PIXAR remakes already really. Seems like an easy financial decision just like the turn towards sequels, you'd think Iger would've already done it. All I can think is he's avoided it because he was friends with Lasseter and Lasseter wouldn't like it, but he didn't like the idea of sequels either and yet... And anyway, quite a lot of original talent didn't like the WDAS remakes either and they did them anyway, so...

It’s not a huge surprise that Sanders is not returning for “The Wild Robot 2,” considering his films “Lilo & Stitch” and “How to Train Your Dragon” (made with his frequent partner Dean DeBlois) and “The Croods” (made with the great Kirk DeMicco) all inspired sequels that Sanders did not return to direct. He is currently set to write the live-action sequel to last year’s “Lilo & Stitch” for Disney, with the possibility that he’ll also direct.

Well, let`s hope that he`ll come up with a compelling storyline for the sequel. A story worth telling.

That doesn't spell great things for me for The Wild Robot. I thought HtTyD 2 was fine, and 3 was kinda bland. His franchises don't tend to do well in my book once he leaves them.
I've always thought that any proper sequel to Lilo & Stitch would take Stitch and the family out of Hawaii to find some fresh new territory for him to cause chaos. Stitch in New York? Or go far the other way and plant him at like a Texas ranch?

Fair enough. I thought
The Wild Robot was a better movie than
How To Train Your Dragon, though.

Wow, that was quick! And yet still Disney haven`t released the sequel to Jon Favreau`s The Jungle Book, despite it`s success...
