Anastasia (1997) 4K UHD

The daughter of the last Russian Czar, Nicolas II (Rick Jones), Anastasia (Meg Ryan) is found by two Russian con men, Dimitri (John Cusack) and Vladimir (Kelsey Grammer), who seek the reward that her grandmother, the Dowager Empress Marie Feodorovna (Dame Angela Lansbury), promised to the ones who’ll find her. But the evil mystic of the Czar family, Grigori Rasputin (Christopher Lloyd), still wants the Romanov family to be destroyed forever.

MORE INFO TBA

Back in November, last year, Disney held a screening of an all new 4K remaster of Anastasia on their lot. This transfer was supervised by Don Bluth himself.

This is great news; this is my favorite non-Disney animated film, and I'm super excited to see the new remaster.

Is this okay to post on the Main Disney thread? I thought since Disney purchased 20th Century Fox, this would be appropriate.

There isn’t official confirmation yet, unfortunately. It looks like the news comes from a Facebook page, “Dawn of the Discs,” which does not appear to have a reliable source for this announcement. I think they heard Anastasia got a 4K remaster and jumped the gun, assuming a physical release would follow. But we have plenty of examples of movies getting remasters, that then never get a physical release or languish on digital platforms for months/years before hitting physical. I wouldn’t get too excited yet, but I hope something is in the works.

I thought so. I’m hoping it’s true though. If it were true, I think a November release is more likely, so an official announcement would be too soon.

Cool, regardless of the form it takes I just want to see more 4k releases of hand drawn in general. I dont know why disney seems so reluctant to do it outside of a a couple of their biggest movies.

Makes sense because the digital version just got released on 4K a couple days ago. Couldn't have happened to a worthier princess. I think maybe Disney's last beautiful princess.

November is over and I haven't seen any official announcement about a new release. What happened?

They screened it last year in November. I meant that a possible home media release would probably occur in November, and I meant this year.

I would love to see a 4k master of this beautiful movie. It's my first non disney favorite movie and I think that it's time to give it the love and the care that it deserves.
By this time I expected Disney to make more merchandise about it...I don't know if they would do something if this 4K master is released.
The poster that Vlad included is awful. It's the artwork used in Europe for the BD cover and I never understood why they draw Anastasia with the ponytail. Watching it completly I realize that the skirt also doesn't have the same design as the dress that she wears at the end of the movie. They made a weird mix between this dress and Once upon at december's one.

It made me really said that when Disney bought the rights to Fox and Anastasia, that Anastasia merchandise stopped being made. I was going to buy the music box replica but Disney forced the companies to stop producing them. Now they're worth $500 at least online from second-hand retailers.

Disney did make merchandise for Anastasia's anniversary a few years back. Not much but there was some which I think was a way of gauging if there was interest for anything more substantial. I can see Anastasia getting a limited doll for her next anniversary in 2 years.

They weirdly mixed her two formal ballgowns like you said. The ponytail is from her OUAD dress but also the crown. Which doesn't even match her diamond choker since that looked better with her diamond crown, not the pearl diadem she wears during OUAD, meaning she has conflicting jewelry now. And until you said it, I didn't realize they gave her a plain skirt without the patterns and underskirt she wears as part of her imperial ballgown so they've copied this from the OUAD dress too. They seem to not be able to decide what look she should wear on the cover so they just mix them both together. The rest of the cover looks like a typical Disney Platinum DVD/Diamond Edition Blu-ray cover.

They made the pin and the mug but that's all as much as si remember.
I've been also thinking about a LE doll but probably it would be a D23 exclusive or something. She's going to be hard to get in case that they decide to make it.
The cover is a whole mess. I don't know why they can't make a decent cover for this movie, the only one that I really love is the VHS one.

I wonder what dress her LE doll would be. I feel most fans like her midnight blue opera gown the best since that's the most nostalgic. But really she should get multiple dolls because her dream waltz dress and imperial ballgown are just as necessary for the doll treatment.

They also have a tendency to put Dimitri in his black tux when posing with Anastasia in either her yellow or gold imperial gown. Even though he only wore the tux when she was in her blue opera gown.
