Fascinating. The book was a touchstone for 4th grade Patch, though I'm confused at how they're going to draw out the story to support a whole series.

When I saw this thread title, my first thought was that Holes was a natural choice to adapt for a Disney+ series. I could imagine something like a kid friendly version of Orange is the New Black, where each episode focuses on the backstory of a different kid at the camp.

Both my third and fourth grade teachers read Holes aloud to us! And of course, after we finished the book they’d roll in the TV strapped to a cart and we’d watch the movie. I have a huge soft spot for Holes, although I haven’t rewatched the movie or reread the book in probably 20 years… The cast is much better than the movie had any right to… Sigourney Weaver, Patricia Arquette, Tim Blake Nelson, Eartha Kitt, and a young Shia LeBeouf who really was the best Disney Channel actor of his generation.

I wonder if Holes is still a popular choice in schools? I suspect the answer is yes, since it seems once a book is added to the curriculum it takes a long time for it to shuffle off.
