‘Ducks' Set to Be Pixar's First Ever Musical

Pixar is developing a new movie, this one is set to be the first musical in the toon company’s history.

The movie is titled “Ducks” and its main characters are exactly what the title suggests.

Pixar’s upcoming slate already includes “Elio,” “Toy Story 5” and “Inside Out 2” — the latter is being released this summer, the other two in 2026.

“Ducks” seems to be eyeing a 2027 launch.

DUCKS could be the spring release while TOY STORY 5 naturally goes to the summer. For a studio that normally keeps everything under wraps until a year or two before release an original film that late down the line seems quite far-fetched. They'll probably announce it on D23.

I know that this what I'll call a rumor for right now is on a few websites and Tweets, but I won't believe it until the trades or animation sites report on it. And Coco was Pixar's first musical I thought...

that was a movie that featured music, I wouldn't call it a musical outright.

Well, they've also made a princess film before, so probably not a big deal. That said, if some kind of studio merger were going to happen (and I would imagine it would be PIXAR folded into WDAS), a musical film would be a good way to segue into that and/or to prepare those employees for more musical-type content, I guess?
