Disney World to get four new attractions for anniversary

LOS ANGELES — Four new attractions will open at Walt Disney World Resort, including a walking, talking animatronic dinosaur named "Lucky," to mark the 50th anniversary of Disneyland.

The new attractions are part of an 18-month event, dubbed "The Happiest Celebration on Earth," which includes new fireworks shows, parades and rides at The Walt Disney Co.'s 10 worldwide theme parks.

The celebration begins May 5, 2005, and includes the opening of Disney's 11th park, Hong Kong Disneyland, in late 2005 or early 2006. Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955.

Plans at Walt Disney World Resort include:

_The "Cinderellebration" show from Tokyo Disneyland will play at the Magic Kingdom.

_The Soarin' over California ride, which debuted at Disney's California Adventure park, will open at Epcot.

_The "Lights, Motors, Action" stunt show from Disneyland Resort Paris will open at Disney-MGM Studios.

_A walking, talking dinosaur named Lucky will interact with guests at Disney's Animal Kingdom. A new roller coaster attraction, Expedition Everest, will also open at the park.

Thats absolutely horrible.

Disnelyland is what needs the upgrade. I was really hopeful when Pressler/Harris were out and Rasulo was in at Disneyland that they might do something about Disneyland's 50th anniversary in 2005. But I guess not. All Disneyland/CA gets is second rate versions(Winnie the Pooh/Tower of Terror) of other park's ride. Glad I am not an annual passholder anymore.

The Tower of Terror isn't going to be a second rate version, in fact it is supposed to have more effects in it than the Orlando version. Rumor has it that WDW's Tower of Terror will be getting an upgrade for it's 13th anniversary.

I do find it somewhat strange that for Disneyland's 50th that Disney World is getting all the extra stuff. Its cool because I love WDW, but DL should be getting something. Oh well...

actually, i'm a little upset about this announcement. you'd think that disney would not publicize the fact that they are just putting in attractions from their other parks. part of what made going to the different parks so fun is that each one was unique. in a few years it will be to the point where, "if you've been to one, you've been to them all".

and by the way, the new tower of terror is actually a downgraded version. the square cart that holds everybody and moves forward into the elevator shaft will NOT be happening. and the WDW tower of terror just got a "revamping' according to disney in that it is computer operated now and ever time you drop it is different. there will be no 13th anniversary after all.

Here's what disney is doing with their park attractions and it pisses me off. They design a ride and open it in a park. If the attraction is popular, they decide to build another one in another park (the expensive part is the design process). Here's the kicker......they then go over ways to make it cost less to build a new ride (i.e. cutting out parts of the ride or making them cheaper). Eisner's theme park ideas completely suck and i can totally see why Roy was upset.

do what disney does best.....IMAGINE!!!!!! you have some of the best imagineers, so why not let them play and come up with the most fantastic attractions no matter what the cost. Walt always said, if the product is quality, and people will want to enjoy it, then let's not worry about the money.

Actually, Disney magazine said that the new Tower of Terror has newer technology and there's supposed to be a part where the riders are turned into ghosts with some kind of light layering effect. Don't know how, but that sounds pretty awesome!

That's right, it does say that in the magazine.

Also, to the previous poster, I don't think that it is so odd that Disney revealed that the attractions were in the other parks. It's not really a big deal, its not like they haven't ever done that before. It's great to be getting so many new attractions all at once.

Maerj, i totally agree with you: getting so many new attractions at once is awesome. Unfortunately, that isn't what is happening here. We are getting old attractions from other parks. I understand that it's nothing new, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't show a lack of diversity and originality between the parks. Yes, even today I know that the parks are all extremely different, but you have to admit they every year they are becoming more similar......tower of terrors, stunt shows, flying over californias, etc.etc.etc. They are becoming a dime a dozen rides that aren't special to just that park anymore.


Oh, and about that Disney magazine post, yes they will have ghosts in tower of terror elevator, but reusing the technology from the hitchhiking ghosts from haunted mansion... AGAIN NOTHING NEW. believe me, from all of the imagineers that i've talked with, this ride is a total rip off and downgrade from the original. handed to them directly from the Disney Board... Of course Disney magazine would try to make this ride sound completely different and better, when all the people involved know the real truth. don't let the "in house" advertising fool you..........lower quality.
