Joins the Fantastic Magical Carpet Ride of Bonus Features in the
Highly-Anticipated OCTOBER 5 First-Ever ALADDIN DVD Release!
BURBANK, Calif., May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Mother's Day 2004 Announcement --
In celebration of Mother's Day, Walt Disney Home Entertainment today announces
that popular recording artist Clay Aiken will perform the deleted song "Proud
Of Your Boy" on the highly-anticipated 2-Disc Special Edition DVD debut of
Disney's Academy Award(R)-winning* animated classic ALADDIN. A moving ballad
that Aladdin sings to his mother, the song was originally written for
inclusion in the animated feature, but was not used. The exciting new Clay
Aiken recording/music video will be released as a special bonus track on the
2-disc Aladdin Special Edition DVD which debuts October 5, 2004.
"Proud Of Your Boy" was part of an original storyline that was cut from
the film's final version. The song provides greater insights into Aladdin's'
personality and character and is especially poignant as it personifies every
child's desire to make their mother proud. Recovered from the Disney vault,
it is one of the last collaborations by Academy Award(R)-winning composers
Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, the famed songwriting team that also created
the Academy Award(R)-winning** music for the Disney animated films The Little
Mermaid and Beauty and The Beast.
Clay Aiken's first album "Measure of a Man" is nearing sales of three
million. The album had an extraordinary first week sales and debuted at No. 1
on The Billboard 200. It also includes Aiken's first single, "This Is the
Night," which was the best-selling single of 2003. His current single release
"Solitaire" also debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Sales chart
and still remains on top.
Disney's animated classic ALADDIN is available as a "Platinum Edition"
2-Disc Special Edition DVD, creating a whole new world of magic on DVD.
Unavailable in any form for over ten years, this double Academy Award(R)*
winning magic carpet ride has been enhanced and restored and will be presented
for the first time in a spectacular digital format, in an all new 2-Disc set
loaded with magical bonus features that extend the movie experience. In
addition to the deleted song, the DVD includes a thrilling virtual DVD carpet
ride with all-new animation and stunning 5.1 Surround Sound, deleted scenes,
never-before-seen "Aladdin" movie secrets, a hilarious 3-D tour of the Genie's
lamp hosted by Robin Leach, all-new games, never before seen Genie musical
postcards created in collaboration with the original animators, sing along
music tracks, all new music videos, and MUCH more.

Wow, this is exciting. I'm a Clay fan and he had my vote during American Idol 2. Even though there was no chance that I would ever not get Aladdin before, this is just one more reason to look forward to it! (And it looks like that was one more confirmation that the new song is just a bonus feature, unless that referred only to Clay's video).
I think they should get Ruben to sing A Whole New World as a special feature as well, since that was one of the more memorable performances from the show's history.

Clay Aiken is going to sing "Proud Of Your Boy" that is great.
I just got his CD and enjoyed it very much.
This is great news for a American Idol fan.
As for Ruben no way I never really liked Ruben.
This is going to be the best Platinum Edition DVD ever.
Clay Aiken's first album "Measure of a Man" is so great!!!
I can't wait for October!!!

Thank goodness it's him and not one of those Disney Channel people.
Speaking of, which song are they gonna butcher with a pop style version crooned out by said Disney Channel person?

It will be "A Whole New World" by a group of boy singers, whose name I don't remember. I've already seen the clip, and yes, it is bad.

I was amazed at Clay Aiken's talent on American Idol last year. It's remarkable the way he can turn himself from a geek into a stud merely by opening his mouth and singing. Hopefully he does well on the Aladdin DVD. His debut album left much to be desired.

I know you guys are sceptical about which song might get butchered next but I thought the Disney Gang did an ok version of the "Circle of Life" in the special Edition release of Lion King.
Just my opinion....Oh and I liked the clip for it too
I'm going to go crawl back under my rick now in case you all flame me for bad taste
Cya all

You have to be kidding me!
As if "reality" TV hadn't suck it's ugly teeth into every facet of life, now the Disney DVD!
I guess it is just me, but I am hoping the next panel of judges shoot to kill every contestant.
Maybe that is a little harsh. Shoot to maim.
Anyhoo, I never seem to watch any of these "new" videos on the DVD, so I guess this doesn't really phase me. Can't they have some connection to the actual product at hand? At least the 'Circle of Stars' had DISNEY stars in them (crap ones, but Disney nonetheless).
One word: "Pfft".

Oh, don't get me wrong. I can't stand the manufactured musician aspect of
American Idol. In fact, even the more talented ones can't pull off much more than a mediocre karoke performance, thanks to the crappy canned brackground music they use. What I liked about Clay was that he was the only one able to overcome that to some extent. He actually had talent as a performer, unlike the other contestants on that show.

So, in other words - you think he's cute?

No, I think he has excellent stage presence.

And a PHENOMENAL voice, which is not something I'd say about the other contestants (with the possible exceptions of Kimberley Lock and Jennifer Hudson).

Wow!!! This is the best news I've gotten all week (and if ever there was a week I needed happy news, this was it)! Clay Aiken and Aladdin are two of my most favorite things in the world, and the two of them together can only be outstanding.
Thanks for posting this Yuki- you just made my day!

Clay Aiken is a great singer! I don't really like Proud of Your Boy, though. I memorized the lyrics for trivial reasons, but otherwise, I don't like it that much. I love Clay Aiken, and I was so mad when Ruben won. Aside from the fact that Clay is very, very good, he was also one of the most mature contestants.
Still, I was hoping Brad Kane would sing it...

I like Clay Aiken and definately think he should've won and all, but the fact is I just don't think he's right to sing :Pround of Your Boy" now maybe he will surprise me when all is said and done, but I really htink they should have gotten someone else to sing it...

Yup, the only thing that the Disney Channel stars do is mess up the original songs!!!
Can't Disney make professionals singers sing their songs of the remakes, not some Disney Channel Stars.

Well, actually, I don't think that Clay is the best choice to sing Proud of Your Boy. I like Clay and all, he had my vote in American Idol season 2(I'm very mad that Clay did not win!) but I've listened to Proud of Your Boy over and over again, and I am thinking that maybe Clay wouldn't sing it exactly the way that would be best for Aladdin. I would like to hear Brad Kane sing the song...
But, anyway, I could also see Clay singing the song and doing a very nice job! I can't wait until the release!

There's a difference? All are soon to be ignored none-talents popular for no other reason than simply "being on television", and are being exploited by the media.
