ehayut, welcome to the forum!
To answer your questions, (MAKE SURE YOU READ ALL OFF THIS!):
Peter Pan was added to the Platinum Collection on May 1, 2003 along with Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, and Fantasia. If they are all rereleased as Platinums, you could be waiting till 2007, or until the last Platinum of the original list, presumably 101 Dalamatians, is released. By that time, most the the industry will have started releasing BluRay or HDVDs, which are the obvoius choice over normal DVD. Because they were added to the list, many think that the recent Sleeping Beauty SE was the announced PE. Along the same lines, Fantasia was a SE, Peter Pan became an SE. So, essentially, we could all presume that these are the announced versions. The only one needing rerelease would be Pinocchio. Now on the pessimistic side, you could say that those are not the same versions that were announced, and could wait for the so-called Platinums. It certain that 3 of the 4 movies, not including SB, could have much more bonus features added to them.
So what I'm trying to say is that you could wait a long time for the PEs, or just grab the OOP SE of Peter Pan right now. I myself just found it on the shelf at a local A&B Sound , and its a fairly good release, although I would definitely be double dipping (whereas I wouldn't be sure about rebuying Sleeping Beauty).
It depends if you want it right now, or if you can jsut wait a bit, and rent it for the time being. If you choose to buy it, beware of eBay, there's lots of illegal copies out there. I would first look around local stores at the back of shelfs. (I found a Beauty and the Beast DVD which has been OOP for 2 years on the shelf at Rogers Video).
Happy pondering, and join in on the forum!
