I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas or actually knows anything about the sequel. I can't see how in the world they could continue it, and I bet all the original voice actors WON'T be in it, which would be a real shame.

2099net posted about it a couple of times. I just tried to get the links and my internet shut down, but he probably knows where they are. I think that voice work is being done and/or a soundtrack is being recorded. Anyone know more?

I cannot remember where I read it now, I think it was Animated Movies but cannot find it.

However there was an article somewhere discussing the voice work for "Bambi and the Great Prince" - remember when the news of casting Bambi was announced? Well, in a brief throwaway line it mentioned that the the voice work for The Emperor's Newer Groove was "in the can".

However ... I absolutely LOVED The Emperor's New Groove, so if this is indeed coming they better damn well put some effort into it. And IMO, no David Spade immediately lowers this one.

Most likely there will be:

No David Spade, Eartha Kitt or Patrick whatever his last name is. Probably John Goodman will return (he was in Jungle Book 2 for crying out loud).

Yzma turns back into a human, turns Kuzco into a llama, and at the end Yzma turns back into a cat and Kuzco turns back into a human. Kront runs around cooking and talking to squirrels. You know, it'll be the same plot over just like almost all the other Disney sequels!

Maybe they'll even do it in CGI for us. Wouldn't that be nice? Groan.

The sequels have made a big effort to get the original cast back for the newer films - pehaps it's written in the the contracts of the newer features!

If this is in production, I'm sure most (if not all) of the original cast will be back. None of them were "A" list stars like Robin Williams or Michael J Fox After all, it only takes a few days work to record the voice work.

It probably is written in the newer features, "Please remember that you are the character for life, and until you die your voice will be used for the next couple hundred sequels."

On laughingplace the first person says that it might go to theaters! I hope so!

One of the problems with the sequels is often there's not enough thought put into the storylines.

Knowing the old Disney flip-flop for sequels, the plot will be similar to the first - Yzma will obviously be "de-cat-ified" and seek her revenge but this time it will be Pacha who is transformed into a animal and Kuzco will have to help his friend. So the same formula with a slight "opposite" twist.

However, there is so much more that they could do should they be willing to expand the characters and concepts.

Off the top of my head, what if a new, more dangerous threat was in the film. Kuzco's empire could be threatened by a warlike neighbour, for example. Or given Kuzco's personality it would be easy for a con-man or evil wizard to trick Kuzco out of his kingdom. Or Kuzco is forced into marrying an evil witch to keep his title (ancient royal rules and all that) etc. Lots of thing could happen to threaten our characters. And then Kuzco and Pacha would have to "cure" Yzma and team-up with her to fight the common enemy. The old "I must work with my worst enemy" routine - true it's not original, but would work well with the characters. Especially if the Looney Tunes like comedy of the first film was kept (or expanded into even more surrealism).

Given the humour and surrealism in the first film, there's literally no limit to the story possibilities for the sequel - they just need the courage to branch away from the story formula of the first. Ideally I would like to see no "animal transformations"

Let's hope not for a flip-flop! You had some really ideas 2099net. You're right, now animal switch this time! I liked your new plots with the old characters. If only Disney would do something like that! I don't think they have for a long time, not since Scamp and Melody became the opposite of their parents (but had the SAME adventures)... sigh.

Yeah, I don't know how they'll bring Yzma back: they'll have to do a real wacky storyline to make her back in human form. But knowing Disney, they'll probably say that Yzma somehow turned Kuzko into a dog, he chased her away (she is a cat, after all), and now Yzma's evil sister Creena or something like that has come back to prevent Kuzko from becoming human again. that will of course be overshadowed by outrageous slapstick comedy that belongs in a warner bros. or nickelodien film, and buried under it all will be lessons on friendship and loyalty....yawn.

I don't want to know what happened to mogli,cinderella, peter pan or milo
but this however (if it has eartha's character yzma and her voice) i'd see it

I think it's recent enough to not be "sacred ground" off-limits to sequels the way something like Jungle Book or Peter Pan are. On the other hand, what's the point? I loved the first movie, and I was happy with its ending - I don't need to see one with a "twist" - lemme guess this time Pacha turns into a llama.

The film worked because of its tongue-in-cheek off-the-wall comedic approach. Most comedies don't scream for a sequel, and this one doesn't. But if I had to choose between watching this and a live-action sequel starring French Stewart, I'd go with this. That's as much of a compliment as I can muster.

Given the off-the-wall nature of the original, there's literally no limit to what Disney could do for a sequel. The original was almost a Looney Tunes in all-but-name and there's no reason why the same characters cannot be used in a totally original story - time travel, ghosts, thieves stealing from the royal collection... Anything can be done and still have a film that keeps the same madcap humour of the original.

But the sad thing is you're almost certain to be correct with your assumption of the twist. Disney executives won't want to rock the boat too much will they? (You know, being a movie executive is probably the only job in entertainment where they pay people not to have imagination).

Very true and very sad.

You're right that the potential for another loony adventure is great and yet, I'm sure those execs will play it safe, which is the exact formula that TENG seems to have strayed from as it developed from Kingdom of the Sun.

Does anyone know very much about Kingdom of the Sun? I actually bought the CE and gave the Standard back to my parents so I could see stuff about Kingdom, but there wasn't anything there ...

According to imdb.com there's going to be a sequel to The Emperor's New Groove. So far, some of the original voice cast is back but not much else is known. Why has Disney felt the need lately to ruin good movies with a sequel?
