Sorry, but most online stores say that The Lion King DVD will only have English and French language tracks.

The online stores probably have recieved official word from Walt Disney Pictures. The DVD won't include Spanish subtitles either.

There will be a Spanish VHS (which I guess is normal). Strangely enough, the info on Lion King lists Spanish as the only language, rather than English. That's clearly wrong.
I tend to think that it will leave off Spanish in favor of the superflous 5.1 "EHT" track, particularly if the previous Platinums have not had Spanish tracks.

Last year BVHV did a special Spanish Language Beauty and the Beast disc
La Bella y la Bestia (Beauty and the Beast) - Special Edition (1991) I expect they will do the same this year for The Lion King.
I suppose this could not be what you are looking for... after all the bonus materials will probably be in Spanish and you may prefer English. Also, I doubt there will be a Spanish Language Gift Set.

Ric,
I had the exact same question as I too wanted a spanish track to be included.
I can guarantee that there will be NO spanish language track

I would've thought the spanish-speaking population is much bigger than the french.......hmmmmm.
Hopefully, we will at least get a spanish DVD, like B&B, although it won't be nearly as nice as the gift-set.
Platinum Titles with Spanish Track

Althoug not officially called "Platinum Edition" over here each platinum title have got almost the same treatment that the R1 DVD's The difference with B&B is that the first disc was missing the "work in Progress" cut of the film. the Snow White release got the Spanish instead of the French track, but its contents were just the same as R1.
A "Deluxe Edition" will be released over here, it will get all of the Extras but Disney Mexico is cutting of the English Track on the 2nd Disc.
The only thing is that I really wanted that cool box set... and for me is not a problem because most of the time I watch the movies with English track (no need of subTitles) but I kind of like the Spanish track because that's the way I saw them for the first time when I was a kid...
I guess I'll buy it anyway....

That's great news...but why the Disney in Espanol at the top?
Anyone that speaks Spanish will know that it's a Spanish release. It almost cheapens the cover a bit.

Starion-> Thanks for posting that.
I have to agree with you indianajdp.....they killed the case with that. I've seen that done with VHS cases, but never with a DVD case....bummer for me. But I have no choice, as I really want to have the spanish track.
I guess I will be buying both again......just like B&B.

the DVD releases doesn't really get the horrible yellow banner "Disney En Español", it's only for promotional purposes.
Beauty and the Beast has that too while ordering it online, but when it arrived the cover didn't had it...

Actually here in the state that ugly Disney en Español is part of the cover. I've seen Monster's Inc with that ugly yellow banner @ Wherehouse Music. I'm glad we don't get Disney in English banner!

I bought the Lion King Region 1 Spanish DVD. Interestingly enough, it has an English DTS Enhanced Theater audio Track. Sorry, but the Spanish Track is in Dolby Digital 5.1. At least Disney included both English and Spanish subtitles in the DVD. The commentary track is in English.

Dont mean to sound racist (I am no racist) but it would make sense for the American Dvd to have the spanish soundtrack since the population of hispanics americans is always growing
How many french americans do you know? me I only know like one from high school i think

Hi Paka, you're right. This thread did cme full circle.
I agree.
I only know a couple from high school too. I knew a lot of Latinos in high school and college. Some people in in Louisiana and near Canada might speak French. Brother Bear and Lilo and Stitch have Spanish tracks on their DVDs.

Thanks, Starion.
As to the French tracks, the Region 1 dvds are released both in the U.S.
and Canada, and there's plenty of French speakers there - especially in Québec. So the French tracks on the dvds (often in "Québecoise" French, versus European French) are more for Canada than the U.S.
Stateside, I think it's better when Disney includes Spanish in their dvds
along with French and English, rather than a separate edition. I mean, unless you've got a very determined Latino family out there, most don't know about, much less seek out, the exclusive Spanish editions (i.e. of
The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Monsters, Inc. - etc.), which are kind of hard to come by in regular retail stores. Just another inexplicable, nonsensical move from Disney marketing and distribution. O_o

I couldn't agree more. Although Quebec has french-speaking people, North America (US and Canada) stll has more spanish-speaking people than french. But I may be wrong.
I am one of those that is always seeking the spanish tracks. And I can tell you it's quite difficult AND expensive to get. Not sure why they do not include all 3 tracks.

hola!
The DVD cost me about $27 USD while the regular English/French DVD costs about $19 USD. The Borders Bookstore that had the DVD was 15 miles away. I took the subway to go to the mall.
The subtiles don't match the audio that is spoken. It seems that the Spanish subitles are the translation of the English audio.
I don't know why Disney didn't include the Spanish track on the DVD either.

But French is an official language of Canada (or Quebec at least) and as a result there is legislation in favour of bi-lingual releases.

Lucky you, that you could at least take the subway there. I'm in Canada and there is NO store that I know of that carries these versions of the DVD. I always have to order on-line usually via Amazon.com or CD Universe. However, sometimes some titles are not carried by these on-line retailers and thus I am forcd to try and look for it at Mexican on-line stores. Shipping cost about half of what the DVD itself cost.
Maybe, for an upcoming release (that does NOT have a spanish track), most likely Aladdin, I can send you some money and then you can do me the favour of taking the subway for the BOTH of us and mailing me a copy ?
