Hi everybody,

In a desperate attempt to keep my Disney DVD collection as complete as possible I am a bit confused about a certain movie : SNOW WHITE.

Early 2002 ABC announced a new movie to be aired on THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY : SNOW WHITE - The Fairest of Them All. It premiered on March 17 last year, and it starred Miranda Richardson as the Evil Queen. I was hoping Buena Vista would release it on DVD soon, since they also released a bunch of other WWoD movies, such as "Annie", "Toothless", "Life-Size" and "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella".
Now, a few days ago I was browsing the DVD section on Amazon, and there it was : SNOW WHITE - The Fairest of Them All, a HALLMARK DVD !!!

I am so confused, even more so because this very website (which is practically my bible) hasn't listed it either, although other non-Buena Vista DVD's (like "Brian's Song" and "The New Swiss Family Robinson - as seen on The Wonderful World of Disney") are listed. In fact it is a bit strange that it hasn't been released by Buena Vista anyway, since the press kit only mentioned ABC and The Wonderful World of Disney, and NOT Hallmark.

Can someone please help me out ?

I believe the Hallmark one is probably the one you are looking for. The evil queen had long red hair I believe? and the dwarfs were played by migits? I think I saw parts of this, oh and snow white was played by that girl from Smallville. Well anyway check, the Halmark one, I think that's probably it.

I think it's cool that this title will be added, because I really liked the movie. But I still don't know why this DVD has been released by Hallmark, since the ABC press release had "The Wonderful World of Disney" written all over it ?

probably contractual stuff. they had the rights to promote and air it on national television, but hallmark got distributing rights. weren't there 2 other movies that came out around that time....."confessions of an ugly stepsister" ( a cinderella spin off) and something else, i forgot. i never got to see any of them. were they any good?

ABC showed 3 movies in honor of their "March of Princesses" promotion for the DTV release of Cinderella II. They showed Snow White: Fairest One of All, Confessions of An Ugly Stepsister, and the original 1950 animated Cinderella. I don't even need to explain how good the 1950's Cinderella is, so let's move on to the other two.

Snow White: Fairest One of All-I have mixed feelings over this movie. Overall, I liked how they (tried) to keep true to the original story of Snow White, and Miranda Richardson as the Queen was excellent. Kristin was rather expressionless as Snow White, but I blame it more on the script than I do her, and, hey, at least she's hot. A lot of the acting in the movie was rather cheesy, and I'm still baffled as to why 6 of the dwarfs are midgets and 1's normal sized. Overall, it was a nice way to spend 2 hours, but not necessarily something I'd want to revisit over and over again.

Confession of An Ugly Stepsister-WOW!! This movie more than made up for any faults Snow White had. Like Drew Barrymore's Ever After: A Cinderella Story, Confessions takes the Cinderella story and makes it more realistic. In this film, the stepsisters aren't evil at all, and the stepmother's just desperate to live in royalty, but not evil, either. Everything about this film was excellent, from the costumes, to the acting. I've read that this film doesn't do justice to the book it's based on, but since I've never read the novel, I'm judging this strictly as a film, and in that regard, it's amazing. DISNEY, PLEASE RELEASE THIS TO DVD!!!

So there you have it. Snow White's worth a rental, at least, but if Confessions ever hits DVD, I strongly recommend you purchase it as it's a very fresh and first-rate version of the Cinderella story.

Hallmark is a production company that specializes in made for tv movies. They made Dinotopia and Snow White specifically for Disney, but Disney didn't actually have anything to do with the making of those films. The first time Disney teamed with Hallmark for anything was with the failed Dinotopia Series. When Disney gained control, they recasted Eric Von Detten in the title role. That Series was doomed! I've noticed that since then, Hallmark hasn't made any more movies for or with Disney.

I loved the original Dinotopia TV movie (the one that was 6 hours long)!!!!! I was so excited about the TV series in December, but I was really angry when Disney recasted ALL the roles! ALL the roles!!!!! I was then really angry when they pulled the plug on it the week after Christmas (what a great present). I've taped every episode except for the second one, and the series is rumoured to be released on DVD by Hallmark this August. Could be just a rumour though-why release a DVD of a failed series?

To re-coup as much money as possible?

It was put out on VHS in the early 80's but it is no extremely hard to find and you have to pay $80.00 or more for one when you do find one! If you ever find one at a garage sale or a pawn shop or something pick it up because they are great rare movies!

Isn't there some sort of live-action scary Snow White that was recently made as well?

Also, the non-Disney animated sequel of Snow White was something I liked as a kid. I need to see it again. Forget what it's called, though.

Hallmark, in conjunction with NBC and Artisan-Ent, also made the 10th Kingdom, which is also about Snow white and was written by the same guy that wrote Dinotopia! All these TV epics are related.

That Cinderella movie seems cool. I need to see that and Ever After.

YES! It's a damn shame this isn't on DVD or even VHS - it's the best movie the Wonderful World of Disney has aired, in years. I read the book and didn't like it as much, but maybe that's just 'cause I saw the movie version first.

Did anyone notice that this movie was actually a combinatio of an original plot with "Snow White" and another fairy tale called "The Snow Queen". I think the beginning of the film ran with the Snow Queen plot and then went on with the Snow White story for the rest of it

It is funny that you mention that. Hallmark also made "Snow Queen" and it has been on DVD for more than a year now. It also includes a cool cardboard slipcase, like Disney's. I like most of Hallmark's films and reccomend "Snow Queen" to annybody who liked this version of "Snow White."

Yep, Snow White: A Tale of Terror was scary! It had Sigourney Weaver as the queen and the dwarfs were just miners. This Snow White was dark and morbid and definitely for adults only (The Queen was trying to, ahem, make more intimate relations with the Prince and Snow White with one of the "dwarfs"! GAAAHHH!!!). I think I saw this on the Sci-Fi channel...

On a happier note...I loved the 10th Kingdom! A lot of people said it was bad but I just thought it was so awesome with all the Fairy Tale crossovers and giving them histories and using elements from their stories and the good acting and, it was wonderful! Still searching for the DVD. I had taped it the second time it aired, but this version was cut. Then I taped over it with Zenon the Zequel! Ay yi yi, I was so young and foolish...

The DVD for T10K shouldn't be hard to find, I see it in stores all the time. There are several different issues of it (2-disc, and two different cases of 3-disc sets, to my knowledge). It's also available on VHS, and airs on TV in its entirety on Odyssey and other such networks from time to time. It's my understanding that one of the major Video on Demand services for satellite/digital cable are also offering it in 2 parts right now.
