The animation unit responsible for Disney's DVD-premiere movies such as THE LION KING 2: SIMBA'S PRIDE has been renamed DisneyToon Studios.
DisneyToon Studios' upcoming release schedule includes:
THE LION KING 1-1/2 - on video and DVD, February 2004
WINNIE THE POOH'S SPRINGTIME WITH ROO on video and DVD in spring 2004
MICKEY, DONALD AND GOOFY IN THE THREE MUSKETEERS on video and DVD in summer 2004.
MULAN II on video and DVD - fall 2004
MICKEY'S TWICE UPON A CHRISTMAS – on video and DVD in holiday 2004
Looks like a busy 2004 already, especially as most sites seem to agree LILO AND STITCH II and TARZAN II are to be released in 2004 as well.
In addition voice recording is supposed to have started on BAMBI II and THE EMPERORS NEWER GROOVE (aka TENG II)

God, I hope these are good. I think Bambi 2, has such great potential, and can visualize a beautiful masterpiece to revival the first. Sadly this mostlikely isn't even close to being the case. I think this is one The "real" studio should handle. It has such potentail... tsk tsk
Well I look forward to the three muskateers, hey how come Horace horse collar never became famous, he could be the 4th muskateer, As there were actually 4.
I am really hoping Tarzan II is good. I hope they dress Jane in the red 2-piece outfit she was wearing at the end og the first one.
I am not too sure about Lilo and Stitch II, Love the first one, but I don't know... With Stitch! the movie, and the new series, I don't know what to expect.
Man we are really being bumbarded with sequels next year, aren't we. Hopefully NEWER GROOVE will be funny. I will be making lots of trips to Hollywood Video next year, that's a movie rental place for those of you who don't know.

Some of these I'm really look forward to, others I'm neutral about.
I'm sure I'll get them all eventually...
I hadn't heard about 'Newer Groove'. That could be fun. I think it is quickly becoming one of the forgotten ones, and that is such a shame because I think it is one fo the funniest Disney films to come out in ages (and given that historically, it was meant to be a sweeping epic that was even more of an effort).
MULAN II could go either way for me. I enjoyed the first (am still looking for that DVD), and will probably get it out fo curiosity.
POOH & STITCH are givens. I think most people on this board know my fondness for Pooh
THREE MUSKETEERS could potentially be really great. It will be good to see a film with all 3 of the Disney heavy hitters in it again.
I have to buy all of these anyways. Being made at the freshly named DisneyToon, I have to support the local product and all that

I understand that this might be hard to find out about as I've never seen the film and don't even know what decade it's from, but I could have sworn Disney made an animated film (most likely a short like Reluctant Dragon segment) called "The Emperor's New Clothes," based on the original bedtime story.

According to The Encyclopedia of Disney Animated Shorts (

Yeeesh!!!!!!
Altough the new sequels seem to be outrageous (CGI Bambi!!! What the hell are they thinking?!!!), "The Three Musketeers" does seem to be an interesting project. I think it's much better for Disney Toons to do this kind of work (original projects) instead of cheaply made sequels.
Well, but they have to do what Eisner wants them to do, so, as long as they don't sequelize every film Disney Feature Animation has made, they won't stop!!!!

Well "The Three Musketeers is not really an original story is it? And most of the characters will be existing Disney ones (Mickey, Donald, Goofy and I'm willing to bet Minnie and Pete will be in there as well). So they're going to be taking their inspiration from a classic story and reusing a lot of character designs. Plus I doubt the money to make The Three Musketeers is going to be any greater then that given to Return to Never Land or Jungle Book 2 (being as both of them ended up on the big screen and Musketeers is DTV only).
I see absolutely no difference between an "original" work like TTM and a decent, well thought out sequel. Of course the problem is most of the sequels aren't. But I think a typical sequel has as much room for originality and inspiration than the retelling of an established story with established characters does.
What I personally think ToonDisney should be doing is movies based on classic Disney television properties - how about another Duck Tales movie? Or Gargoyles? Rescue Rangers?
Somehow I have the feeling nobody would complain about those "sequels".

Well, what I mean is: they are not redoing something WDFA has already done: they are creating a project on their own.

That would be a very nice idea! But I don't think they would be as profitable as the sequels so, maybe the executives wouldn't aprove it!
But surely, a "Gargoyles" movie would be very curious to watch!!! Specialy when we consider that the series were darker than usual!

Febuary and summer 2004 can not come any sooner. I can't wait.
Bambi II i have a feeling they will mess up, since thats about all disney can do now-a-days...

I think Scamp's Adventure and Patch's London Adventure (remove the prefixes from the title and their association with the original becomes even lesser) were virtually new creations. Especially Scamp's Adventure which had lots of new character designs and hardly any screentime for the established characters. Just as Walt Disney himself was inspired by fairtales and classic stories, Disney as a company are now being inspired by their own stories. It doesn't sound so strange when you think of it like that - after all Walt Disney himself is basically the Hans Christian Anderson of the past few generations.
Of course some of the sequels haven't really been that inspired - I'll hold my hand up now and admit most are disappointing (or worse) - and I think it's pretty clear to see which of the sequels were created by people inspired by the originals and which were created by people much more interested in getting their paycheque.
Also, sequels to the newer films do sound a bit too commercial - but I've learnt that it's best not to pass any judgement on something until you have seen it. Being as Atlantis:Milo's Return was going to be a series of episodes from the cancelled television series, I was expecting the worst, but I was pleasently surprised and would quite happily hand the money over for further releases - any one of the films mentioned in this thread could surprise me just as much, if not more so.
So what am I saying with all these ramblings? Basically I'm just saying to everyone - I'm not picking on you Joe - "Wait and see"

perhaps in the three "mouseketeers" pete will get to play cardinal richeleau huh? oh, i had not heard of the emperor's newer groove either. any news on it? storyline, voices, etc.
I still want disney to do a live-action sword in the stone like someone mentioned earlier. i'm getting so caught up in this harry potter world, and i think disney could get in on some of the hype. a gargoyles feature would be awesome. i'm sure the star trek voices would love to come back and reprise their roles. i think if carefully planned out, this would've been a much better medium to test the CG in rather than Bambi II. can you imagine the type of shots they could get now flying through the city. Ooohhhh, what about a live action gargoyle movie with the gargoyles being CG (i.e. Dobby the house elf, Gollum, Jar-Jar, etc.) that would be way cool and would appeal to the masses like pirates of the carribean.
What about the whole chronicles of narnia? any news on disney making them with walden media yet? oh, and wasn't dinsey working on a movie called "enchanted" with like live-action and animation blended. i think susan sarandon and john travolta were supposed to play characters in this movie about a portal to a magical world a la "10th Kingdom"? So many possibilites to explore and all this fanastical magical stuff to utilize and Disney does stuff like Piglet's Big Movie and Lizzie Mcguire.......

I have faith in T3M, because Disney did something similar when they made The Prince and the Pauper, which I enjoyed very much when I first saw it.

You guys have way toomuch time on your hands.
Although you did come up with some clever titles.
Jacl, the scary thing is they are coming out with a Snow Wite II, something Disney was strongly against, upto his dieing day, and it sounds really stupid, but then again, I guess I should give it a chance

. Well fans of Dopey should be happy anyway.

You guys are mad.
And I wish I'd thought of those sequel titles first
Jack - 'Animals in Tights' in my fave so far. Can't stop laughing over that one.
Actually there are a few legitimate stories out there to be told.
The Back Cauldron was one of a series of books by Lloyd Alexander, and there were plenty of other tales to be told in there. However, the film was a bit of an combo of all 5. Still, that was one of my favourites.
I'd like to see the TV division do more flicks in the vein of T3M etc. There are a few sequels I look forward to, but those are the types of stories look forward to the most.
I think the Sydney studios are doing a fine job (I have to say that. They are about a 1/2 hour drive from here, so they might come and beat me up if I slag them too much). I seriously do.
Some of the stuff hasn't matched my memory of the originals, sure. But few sequels ever do. The fact is - the are great little money earners for the studio, and sure you don't have to buy the sequels, but the fact remains - the more of these that sell, the more interesting projects like T3M will come about. I think 2099's idea of more Tail Spin/DuckTales etc films would be good. Or even feature length House of Mouse style things. I really like those ones where you see all your fave characters - they are just fun.
While I think the entire back-catalog should be remade with an 'Electric Boogaloo' tacked on (I'll never get tired of that joke, but I'm sure you all will), I also eagerly wait:
Treasure Planet sequels:
Beneath the Planet of the Treasure
Escape from the Planet of the Treasure
Conquest of the Planet of the Treasure
Battle for the Planet of the Treasure
and finally, Tim Burton returns to Disney to triumphantly "re-imagine" the original Treasure Planet.
Dumbo 2: Dumbo Harder
Dumbo with a Vengeance
And for the 'Late Night' crowd:
Pinocchio 2: Even More Wood
Peter's Pants
The Threesome Cabelleros
Fun and Pants Free
The Rescuers Go Down Under
Snow White and the Seven....
Ok. I've gone too far, haven't I?

Sleeping Beauty: Episode 2 - Attack of the Dragons - June 2005
You may laugh, but there is a perfectly legitimate sequel for Sleeping Beauty (as you will find out when the 2 disc set is released in the US). Most versions of the fairytale do not stop when the Princess wakes up, but carry the story on to the Prince and their Daugher and Son (Dawn and Day). If you read the summary though it seems unlikely Disney will make it without major reworking.
http://www.gwu.edu/~folktale/GERM232/sl ... ation.html
Also Scamp's Adventure was perfectly legitimate - although only appearing for a few seconds at the end of the original, Scamp is an established Disney character in other media. He had his own comic series and a number of storybooks. There was no disrespect for an old Disney "classic" - only respect and a continuation of an established spin-off character.
As for Return to Neverland - Jane was a creation of J M Barrie in his novelisation of Peter Pan, and she was in the original play. Alright she only appears for a brief-time, but serves an important role in the story. Plus with Wendy's approval Jane does fly to Neverland.
"Of course in the end Wendy let them fly away together. Our last glimpse of her shows her at the window, watching them receding into the sky until they were as small as stars."
So again Disney were only talking ideas from the original source (although they added to them considerably - but that's no problem they altered the original Peter Pan too).
http://www.literature.org/authors/barri ... er-17.html
Other legitimate sequels: Well Alice in Wonderland is a combination of both Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through The Looking Glass, but doesn't include all of the events and characters written.
As well as The Wind in the Willows (which in itself probably provides more material than was used in the Mr. Toad section of Ichabod and Mr. Toad) There has been a number of literary sequels written by William Horwood beginning with "The Willows In Winter"
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/bookse ... 259&itm=17
The Sword In The Stone has upteen possible sequels, being based as it is not only on the first of a series of children's books, but also ultimately being based on The Mort de Authur, which in turn is based on English legends.
http://www.knowledgerush.com/books/1mart10.html
Loomis has already written about The Black Cauldron.
There's probably an argument for Robin Hood as well, as the Disney version left out many of the events and characters of the English folk tale. However given the end of the film ties in roughly with the end of the folk tale, it would probably have to be a Robin Hood 1 1/2 midquel!
When Disney talks existing stories and adapts them for their films, you must be aware that in some cases sequels (or at least events and characters) already exist!
