Theater fans got a surprise at tonight’s Disney on Broadway Concert Series performance at EPCOT, when tonight’s performers announced that a new theatrical adaptation of Disney/Pixar’s Coco is in development.
A while ago I got a survey from the Hennepin Theatre Trust about what Disney stage musicals we'd like to see come through on tours, and in addition to the usual suspects they also had titles like Coco and The Greatest Showman, so I imagine most of their musical films are at some level or another of development for the stage.
This is really exciting news! I've thought for a while that a film like this would play well on the stage, especially the spectacle of the land of the dead.
I'm especially excited for the music to come from this. I know the film is a musical, but I almost don't think of it as one because the songs seem a bit far apart. I'm sure a lot more songs will be added for the stage adaptation.
