The term woke has been weaponized by conservatives to trick people into thinking equal rights are a bad thing. They want people divided to keep them from figuring out that democrats and republicans are both awful choices and that neither of them care about the interests of the working class. The two party system is horrible.

Putting that aside, queer characters and characters of color need to continue being included in Disney's films and stories. You can call it woke… I call it basic human decency. Take your pick, they’re the same thing.

I’ll give Iger one thing though, he’s a diplomat. So he’ll be able to deal with Florida, Wall Street and the media pretty much simultaneously.

Let’s see if we’ll get better films.

If some people believe Disney will be less "woke" with Iger back, they couldn't be more wrong.
When asked Monday during an employee Q&A about where the studio would now fall on the ['Don’t Say Gay'] matter, Iger said “one of the core values of our storytelling is inclusion, and acceptance and tolerance. And we can’t lose that, we just can’t lose that… how we actually change the world through the good must continue. We’re not going to make everyone happy all the time, and we’re not [going to] try to. We’re certainly not going to lessen our core values in order to make everyone happy all the time.”

“I think there’s a misperception here about what politics is,” Iger said. “Some of the subjects that have been proven to be controversial as it relates to Disney have been branded political, and I don’t think they are.”

Iger's potential successors.
While there are internal candidates like TV entertainment chief Dana Walden, ESPN and sports head Jimmy Pitaro, and international chief Rebecca Campbell, Iger may also very well look outside the company, perhaps to a veteran entertainment executive (bring back Peter Rice?) or a more outside-the-box pick (former Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg was in the mix last time).

A CFO with no creative experience doesn’t have to be a problem if she knows how to stay in her lane.

But power corrupts so I’m sure she’ll pretend to know all about production once she’s on top.

Yeah, we don't need her.

Scrutiny on the Disney board
If anyone is to blame for the Bob vs. Bob C.E.O. circus of the past few months, it’s the Walt Disney Co. board of directors, which endorsed Bob Chapek in June (and unanimously so, though we later learned it wasn’t exactly unanimous) only to discard him and his beard in a dumpster outside the Starbucks on West Alameda five months later. Bloomberg reported the Chapek go-away money will be “at least” $23 million, but it could be much more, and we will learn that number this year. I’m guessing that chair Susan Arnold and her 12-person board, which still doesn’t include a single member with significant entertainment experience (other than Bob Iger), will come under much more scrutiny then, when investors and the media learn how much the June renewal through 2025 ended up costing the company.

They announced sequels for Toy Story, Frozen and Zootopia...

The final nail in the coffin for any creativity at Disney. If that's the line up for the coming years I'm officially done...

He just announced that sequels to Toy Story, Frozen and Zootopia are in the works. If that's sign of the "creativity" we can expect from Disney in the future then I'm officially done with the studio...

Yay! :pink: I would've thought Zootopia 2 would've been announced a year or two ago, glad it's finally happening. Looking forward to both it and Frozen 3. I'm always going to watch the new Toy Story films, but hopefully this one will end up being an uptick from 4. I didn't hate 4, it just felt sort of inconsequential.

I don't mind two sequels after several years of original projects now in Raya, Encanto, Strange World, and Wish. With PIXAR, their original films are more spotty for me. I'd take another original film from Domee Shi for sure, otherwise anything else has as much chance at being good as being bad (Elemental looks pretty bad at the outset to me), so I wouldn't mind sequels to better properties like Toy Story, Luca, or Inside Out. Besides, they have an original film coming to in Elio.

Iger is pulling out the big guns. I guess that's one way to get the stock back up again. He's doing the same thing he did before his retirement where he planned all the heavy hitters to be released at the same time so he would leave with a bang. As for creativity, they run out of that at Disney a long time ago. Besides, creativity is more than just coming up with original IP.

I'm actually surprised they haven't announced another sequel to The Incredibles and Finding Nemo whose previous installments also hit the billion dollar mark. Maybe they're saving that for the next earnings call. :P
