Cool! The Princess Diaries a Special Edition DVD? Boy, I'll have to get this one. It is definately an awesome movie, I don't know why a lot of people hated it, it was great!

The Ultimate Tea Party? Wow! That sounds like fun!

Looks like a pretty good set. I think I'll pass though. The movie was alright, but not something I'm interesting re-watching.

I am glad to hear that the Princess Diaries is coin a 2-disc special it stink becasue just this Christmas I got the DVD I dont think my mom would be cool with me having it on VHS and DVD. BUT I will defintley rent it to see the upcoming Princess Diaires I am stoked I remember seeing the Christmas Parade Disney World and seeing Julia Andrew's greeting from the set of Princess Diaries 2 I screamed. So can't wait Keep me posted if you find anymore news on the movie.

Sounds like the original DVD release with a few more extras to promote the sequel, and both formats in the same set instead of dual releases. It was an okay movie as movies go, but it butchered the book and I hated it, so I'll probably pass.

So besides some new promotional stuff for the sequel, the only new features are a pan and scan (blegh) version of the film, some bloopers, and a princess featurette. Well, I don't own the old DVD, so I'll probably pick this up, though I wish the set-up had the widescreen version with commentaries on disc 1 and everything else on disc 2, giving the film a higher bitrate. If that banner at the top is any indication of the cover art, Anne Hathaway has been airbrushed to the point where she's no longer recognizable...

I love this film and was so excited when I heard about a 2-disc set, but this isn't what I had hoped for. I was expecting more to be added than just bloopers and a sneak peak at the sequel.

THE PRINCESS DIARIES SPECIAL EDITION this is a must get for any live action Disney fan.
I really enjoyed the movie and I can't wait to get it.

I have to admit to never really giving this film much thought - I have not been a huge fan of live-action Disney until recently, and I was a little put off by some of the promos.

The release of a 2-disc (all of which I have bought thus far) makes me want to reassess that prejudice. I may rent the library's copy (I just ordered it) or see if it is on cable this month (it has been recently).

Although the release seems to be primarily a marketing tool for the sequel (and there are some fluff promo pieces on there), it is good to see the meat and potatoes included: commentaries, deleted scenes, outtakes, music videos, 16:9 etc.

Something I will certainly make an effort to check out...

The shame is that all the meaty extras were on the original release already. The new material is pure fluff!

A missed DVD oportunity and a shameless marketing tool!

Wow, do I really want to purchase another pan-and-scam version of TPD, even if I do get the WS version as well?

I loved the book, I hated the movie, I think I'll pass.

I always maintain - EVERY DVD is someone's FIRST DVD.

So, yeah - it might be shitty that all the meaty extras were already out, but for people who have never seen the movie or don't own (like me!), it is a pretty good deal.

But yes - shameless marketing tool. New features are likely to be repeated on the eventual PD2 DVD.

BTW - Amazon entry only mentions "fullscreen" release. I assume this is just an error.

So in other words I should hold off in getting the current edition...

I have the originally released single disc DVD, and I am debating on whether to get the double disc set. Normally, I would without question, because as far as Disney movies go, I must have all in a 2 disc set, if it was released as such.

But reading about the extras included in this 2 disc set, it doesn't sound much different to the extras that are already on the single disc DVD. So, I'm not sure if it would be worth it to sell of my single disc DVD and buy the 2 disc set. Hmmm...maybe if it has a much cooler cover than the first one, or perhaps if it comes with a slipcover then maybe that might put me over the top to buy it

Yes! It's worth buying again just to get the proper widescreen version of the movie, but instead of trying to find the single-disc widescreen now, just hold off for this.

And never buy another pan and scan DVD when there's an option for widescreen. (Even when there's not, avoid buying P&S DVDs unless it's something you simply MUST have in your collection.)

My Princess Diaries DVD is a full screen version too. I bought that back when I didn't have a widescreen TV and I really depised the black bars on the screen so thats why at the time, I went with the FS version.

If you have the widescreen version and played in on a 4:3 TV, you would certainly see the black bars but...would you see any more of the picture?
My guess is no, because with a 4:3 TV you can only fit so much into it, so having a widescreen DVD play on it, wouldn't be any better than a fullscreen one, and you'd have black bars on the screen which is annoying.
Is this assumption correct?

Actually, you would see more on a Widescreen DVD than a Pan & Scan DVD on a 4x3 TV. Naturally, you would. The black bars are there, because the picture is too wide to fit on a 4x3 TV screen, so rather than chopping off the sides, the width is preserved and black bars fill out the top and bottom.

Oh I see now. I guess it all depends on what is more important to you, having a picture that filled the entire screen void of the black bars, or having the black bars, and seeing more of the picture. At the time, having no black bars on the screen was more important to me, hence the reason I went with getting the fullscreen version of the Princess Diaries. But because I have a widescreen TV now, I definitely would not get a fullscreen DVD anymore because I can take care of the black bars on the screen, if it is not anamorphic widescreen. Thanks for the info on that!

Do you think that this will have a slip-cover! I mean it is a re-release and 2 disc re-releases usually get slip covers right!Please have a slip-cover that would be so cool!
