Why do online puzzle sites time how long it takes for you to complete a puzzle?

I suppose some players like to see how fast they can beat a puzzle, maybe. Or to show improvement over time, IDK?

I agree with DD. I never play games using a timer if there is an option to turn it off. But some people are competitive, even with themselves, and they want to keep improving (if improving to them means beating their time).
