Hey everyone!

Since I'm not getting a lot replies trough the topic in off-topic, I thought it would be better to post in the "International" forum since what I'm looking for right now is foreign people for the upcoming Disney site "The Disney Database"

With foreign people, I mean people that can be a representative for their country on The Disney Database. Your job would be providing the site with information about the dvd, movie, ... releases in your couyntry. You will also have to contact your country's Buena Vista International so you can get into a special site where dvd cover images are located and such.

If anyone is interested, please PM me, I'll be very glad if you do! We already have these people for the specified countries:

I can probably provide some info about R3 (Malaysia) Disney DVDs....but since there is no "Buena Vista" office or distribution centre here, I won't be able to get any exclusive previews or box covers and such (well...there isn't one as far as I've checked ).

Disney/Columbia DVDs are distributed by a independent company here and don't usually follow the SE or CE releases available overseas.....e.g. Snow White, Finding Nemo, TLK got 2disc releases but BATB, Sleeping Beauty and Bro Bear only got single discs.

About box covers, I'll probably get them scanned in myself

PS: Interested in the underworld releases of Disney DVDs .....In South East Asia, they're everywhere and cost a fraction of originals (e.g. Beauty and the Beast SE only USD$4.20)....heck! every Disney movie is available on DVD though most are regular transfers from either VHS or Laserdisc. I'll only report the originals though....unless requested

and a good question would be: How do you see that a movie is original or not in Asia?

I have always wondered because there are so many great forgers that I am not confortable buying anything from that part of the world at all.

Most pirated DVDs come with full colour printing on disc plus covers for amaray cases
To see if your purchase is pirated, you can usually look for the following:

1. Region free (most obvious )
2. Usually contains 1 audio track only (unless is bit-to-bit copy of an original)
3. Horrible and wrong subtitling (i.e. bell, beuty). The current trend is to have Engleesh (sic), Malay, Thai and Chinese.
4. Wrong/badly produced covers (i.e. the pirated version of Pocahontas is speeled (sic again!) Pochachontas!!! )
5. Originals usually have a security sticker but nowdays this is being copied too albeit if you look carefully you can see its a fake. There is the usual Mickey Mouse in apprentice garb overlaid on a background of BVHN lettering in the original whilst a fake might contain the SB castle instead.
6. R3 Disney DVDs from Malaysia have a distribution label stating the distributor, movie title, acquisition serial and date plus a serial number.
7. If its DVD-5, its probably fake....single layer I mean.
8. Price wise, original Disney R3 DVDs should range about USD$15 to USD$24 minus shipping.
9. If a Disney movie isn't out on DVD in R1, then it most probably isn't out officially in the R3 area.
10. The latest "wave" of pirated DVDs tend to combine 2 movies onto a single DVD-5 disc minus any form of extras other than a static menu to select between movies. Both movies are very highly compressed (about half normal bitrate) and with 1 DD 5.1 track plus a couple subs. Titles I have personally seen before include compilations of Lady & the Tramp 1&2, Toy Story 1&2 plus Bugs Life & Antz.

Other than that, you can't really tell the difference....especially with those bit-to-bit copies which are exact duplicates without the region coding. I'll try to get some disc and cover scans in ASAP

hehe, that was a perfect match. One Disney movie released with a Dreamworks movie.

The sad part is that many people dont think about it at all since the tend to belive that all cartoons are Disney.

Older version of license sticker on R3 DVDs....still found sometimes on older discs. Similar to the newer ones except slightly larger in size. The other details remain the same (i.e. region coding etc)

OK....the following isn't a Disney DVD but represents quite a good pirated copy of an original movie.

At first glance, it looks quite similar to the original but then take note
(1) & (3) Speeling mistakes abound
(2) In the original, I think this says "WIDESCREEN"
Funny thing here too.....this DVD has an ISBN number. I always though ISBN numbers were for books and printed material?!?

BTW, the disc inside was complete bit-for-bit copy of the original right down to the extras, audio tracks, subtitles, menus etc. Only thing gone was the region coding and macrovision protection.

Note in the bottom left it says "DOBLY SURROUND" plus it states there is 5.1 surround for all DTS, DD and DS tracks!!
