I subscribe to Disney+, and have since Day One. Last month I signed up for Discovery+ when it became available, so I could watch Food Network. I just today signed up for CBS All Access; some people are saying the Super Bowl commercial for Paramount+ was crap, but it actually worked for me- when I saw it on YouTube, I was intrigued. AND I had a 50% coupon code, so I got a year of CBS All Access for $29.95, and no matter what Paramount+ will cost, I'm locked in for a year. (And doing the math on my budget, the monthly breakdown of $4.94 a month for a $59.95 price tag still saves me a little money than the monthly plan, but the 50% savings of $2.50/month can't be beat.) I signed up for the free Peacock service, but I haven't watched it yet.

I really don't even watch much TV, especially when work keeps me busy (our busy season has reduced but has not gone away). Disney+ obviously is a no-brainer. I'm obsessed with Food Network, so for me, Discovery+ was a no-brainer. And I literally woke up this morning from a dream where I signed up for Paramount+, so I did research, saw that it includes Nickelodeon, MTV, and Comedy Central, and was sold. And then I saw that it has The Smithsonian Channel, and that's super-cool, too. And of course it has some Star Trek stuff and CBS shows (I like the comedies) so it seems good. I just need to read less and watch more TV now.

I saw that we didn't already have a thread regarding what streaming services we all use, so I was curious as to what you guys use!

I have Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV, Disney+, and HBO Max.

Netflix tends to have the trendiest stuff, I think, the kind of stuff everyone’s talking about. For me, Netflix is entirely about the here and now— they don’t have a great back catalogue so I spend most my time looking at their new releases and binging them.

Hulu is great for stuff that aired on broadcast TV which I forgot to watch. Has a lot of classic TV and comfort television (The Golden Girls). Sometimes has very interesting movie selections.

Apple TV I only have because it was a free trial which has been extended multiple times. They have some good stuff— The Morning Show and their documentary series about LGBT representation on TV, for example. But they don’t have enough content to justify a subscription. As soon as it’s not free anymore, I’m out.

I pick up and drop Disney+ regularly. I just own everything on Blu-Ray or DVD. Theoretically, a subscription should be worthwhile because of the new content but stuff like The Mandalorian and WandaVision just aren’t for me. I liked The Imagineering Story, Hamilton, and I subscribed when Frozen II and Onward were added. I am iffy about the Premiere Access stuff— I want to see Raya, but it would be cheaper for me to see it in a movie theater.

HBO Max is my favorite streaming service and I get it at a discount due to signing up for it early. It’s not just HBO (which for my money produces some of the best TV around), but also everything WarnerMedia owns. As a fan of classic movies there is no better mainstream streaming service because it combines the catalogues of Turner Classic Movies and The Criterion Collection. HBO Max just has a great mix of new stuff (The Undoing, Veneno) and treasured classics. I also love that HBO Max is streaming all their big movies this year, same day as theatrical release, for no extra charge. I love big monsters movies, so I can’t wait for “Godzilla vs King Kong” next month.

PS I liked the commercials for Paramount+, too! I thought it was a clever way to showcase to consumers everything they owned.

I subscribe to Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+. I care most about Amazon Prime, as that is where I can rent or buy almost any movie imaginable like back in the Blockbuster days. I am able to see most movies I ever wanted to see on that subscription!

Currently I have Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney+, HBO Max, CBS All Access, and the free version of Peacock. I'm anticipating being grandfathered into Paramount+ when CBS changes into that.

Not to keep going back to my blog, especially since I know a couple of you read it, but I did talk about most of these on here and most of my general takes on them. But my personal rankings of what I'm subscribed to would be:

Hulu
HBO Max
Netflix
Disney+
Amazon
CBS
Peacock

I think Hulu and Max have the best overall variety, but I'd give the slight edge to the former for its stronger originals. Netflix is losing me with its lack of interest in catalogue titles, but does still make some interesting originals. I don't get as much use from Disney+ as I already own most of what I want to on DVD/Blu, but I am enjoying WandaVision, and I'm excited for The Muppet Show and American Dragon: Jake Long to start streaming in the next week or so. Amazon has some really good stuff, especially for my movie nights with friends, but I probably wouldn't subscribe if their service was separate from Prime delivery. CBS has some things I'm interested in, particularly Nickelodeon's library, but I could see it go first if I need to save some money. And I only have the free Peacock out of curiosity, and haven't used it at all.

^ I wonder if your blog influenced this post, because I do remember that post of yours! I didn't know that American Dragon: Jake Long is coming to Disney+ soon! I hoped that it'd show up at some point!!!

For me with Disney+, while I own the films, even if it just included former TV shows (like Disney Afternoon, Disney Channel), I'd get my use out of it, but I've really enjoyed the originals. And it is handy having Disney/Pixar/Star Wars/Marvel in one spot. And I like that Nat Geo is on there, too.

I went through the different streaming services this morning, and I was surprised that there was some overlap between CBS All Access and Peacock (shows like "Everybody Loves Chris," "Cheers"...that's what comes to my brain at the moment, but there were a few, which I was surprised about). I was pleasantly surprised that CBS All Access has some VH1 stuff (outside of MTV's Laguna Beach when I was younger, I don't watch the reality shows) like Storytellers and Behind the Music, so that plus some MTV stuff (not the reality besides Ridiculousness, etc) makes me happy.

*edit* I'm glad CBS All Access is on a free trial right now; I may need to cancel it. I am getting an error message on the Roku TV, and on the computer, it says I need to disable my ad-blocker. I thought I did but it's still not working. Unless what I thought was the ad-blocker is not, or maybe something else is blocking it. If I can't watch it, I'm not going to pay $30 for it! Grrr.

*edit* Maybe there's an ad-blocker on the router, even though we get YouTube ads when watching on the Roku TV:

Well, I guess I can't watch it and will just cancel it now. Boo. There's no way my husband will disable a router ad blocker, if that's what is causing the issue.
