After the mess that was Frozen 2, maybe that's a good thing.

I don’t think leading the studio and directing a film can be juggled simultaneously to be honest.

Probably for the best that she’s not returning. She can give notes.

I actually have very few qualms with Frozen II, but I concede that it was probably very stressful for Lee to be directing (or even just co-directing) the movie as she was also helming the entire studio, and I wonder how that would have played out if she had not already signed on to direct the movie when she was put in charge of Walt Disney Animation.

Come to think of it, Docter probably would have been in a similar situation with Soul.

I enjoyed II, but I think Lee's heart is really in original projects. I think it's fine if someone else takes over and she simply weighs in from time to time. Particularly since you know Disney probably won't let them stop at III. I think a third film is the best stopping point, trilogies are just more neatly tied up, but Disney probably will want them to shoot for 5 films just like with Toy Story.

Which is why I believe Wish will be a hit

Marc Smith is directing the film. I wonder if this is the film he was working on back in 2019 or if this is an in-between project.
“Every morning last week they carved out space for me to work with the creative team on it, and I am blown away and I am so excited,” Lee said during a Spotlight conversation with Tricia Tuttle, head of directing fiction at the National Film and Television School. “I don’t know what I’m doing on it yet — I might be doing nothing — except doing what I do now, which is we work on every project as as team and I’m in there with creative. But with ‘Frozen,’ just a little bit more.” In addition to directing “Frozen” and “Frozen II,” Lee penned the screenplays. Of making another film in the franchise, she said: “Our philosophy is this, and it won’t change: If there is more story to tell, the filmmakers have to drive it. And I’ll say with ‘Frozen,’ Marc Smith, who was our director of story on ‘Frozen 2,’ came with an incredible idea for more ‘Frozen,’ and it’s worth it.”

The idea for Frozen 3, she continues, came from Marc Smith, head of story on Frozen II. "Growing it out from there feels right because it's coming with vision, it's coming with purpose."

I thought Chris Buck would still direct it. Now I've got a feeling that he's going to retire after Wish.

So once again we have a double sequel year in 2026, with sequels for both the Toy Story and Frozen franchises..

Very reminiscent of 2019...
Could this be a good strategy?

2026, huh? So it won`t follow the six year rut that was between the first two films.

Moana 2 is 8 years after the original.

Zootopia 2 is 9.67 years after the original.

So yeah.

It's been postponed to 2027!

Predictable, too many sequels in a row

Beautiful artwork. Notice the villain(?)'s reflection in the river (athalonen?).

Perhaps this movie was delayed to give room for an original movie, perhaps the Suzi Yoonessi's Persian fantasy movie that has been rumored to be announced last year, but never was. Probably because Wish flopped so Disney announced a bunch of sequel to save themselves.

I saw on Twitter that someone said Jennifer Lee confirmed an original movie is coming in 2026 from WDAS but gave no further details. Take that with a grain of salt, though, I have no idea if that person was actually attending the expo or if what they said was true.

I take that back— quite a few people seem to be confirming this as something Jennifer Lee stated on stage. So it looks like we are getting an original film in 2026, as long as everything goes according to plan. I do hope it’s a Persian fantasy!

I can confirm that she indeed said that there will be an original movie released in 2026 from people who I know for sure that they have been there.

What’s exciting about that concept art is that it seems to be teeing up an epic fantasy. I think it’s promising that they’re thinking of parts III and IV as a two-part story.

This villain design gives combined with the color scheme reminds me a lot of the short What's Opera, Doc? And I don't mean it as an insult (this is a gem!), even if it might appear corny to some to compared the next Frozen movie to a Bugs Bunny short.
I'm receiving similar vibes from an esthetic point of view.
