Frozen Live-Action?

Yeah, I'm not buying this. There's no way Disney would make a theatrical, live-action film based on The Snow Queen instead of a Frozen remake. Someone's getting their wires crossed.
We have learned that Disney is in early development on a live-action adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy-tale The Snow Queen. Story details on the project are being kept under wraps; however, we do know the project is being developed for a theatrical release. Kristin Burr (Cruella, Christopher Robin) is on board producing. Before you all start calling this new film a “live-action Frozen remake;” We have been told that The Snow Queen is a brand new film altogether.

Doesn’t surprise me. They broke the live action Rapunzel movie and Alan Mencken conformed it within days of them breaking it. So I’m sure it’s true. Why the company thinks it’s a good idea on the other hand, I don’t know. Especially when they’ve struggled to crack the story for decades.

A second Frozen sequel seems inevitable. It would be strange to dilute the franchise, so untouchable that its two royal sisters are not allowed to join the official Disney Princess line, by releasing a different live action interpretation of the Snow Queen story/character.

They can probably get away with it because of the Revival’s dumb adjective titles. The Snow Queen would probably draw in the same audience that enjoyed Frozen while also separating itself from those films--or so they hope. But I'm sure they thought The Nutcracker and the Four Realms would draw in similar audiences that came out for B&tB-2017 and other princess films, and learned otherwise.

The Frozen remake will come some years after Frozen 3 concludes that franchise, I imagine.

I don't believe it. Disney will never pass on making a Frozen remake especially with the Broadway show over. As nomad2010 said, they didn't even hesitate when it came to Tangled (after stating they wouldn't make any Disney remakes past 1999 but they broke that rule for Lilo & Stitch, their only successful film in the 2000s besides Tangled) so Frozen won't be far behind. They won't jeopardize that with an adaptation of The Snow Queen when they know which film audiences will go for.

I didn't know that Alan Menken confirmed the LA Rapunzel movie. I wonder if that's Disney's MO for the newer animated film "remakes"...not remaking the Disney version, but telling the classic fairy tale in live action. So I guess we can expect a LA The Frog Princess. Or maybe it's a different MO (remember that they were going to do a LA Snow White and Rose Red movie? That's been cancelled IIRC): telling classic fairy tales, regardless of if there's a Disney animated film of it, in live action.

Exactly. Disney making a new adaptation of The Snow Queen unrelated to Frozen makes zero sense and goes against their entire strategy when it comes to the remakes and the Frozen franchise. If this is happening, it's going to be a Frozen remake.

Menken didn't confirm it; he hinted at it. And if he's involved, it means the movie is going to be a Tangled remake and not a new adaptation of the original fairytale.

I remember when Emily Blunt was in The Huntsman: Winters War, playing Queen Freya who had ice powers .... everyone made the comparison to Elsa. I think Charlize Therons son even followed her about calling her Elsa as she looked so much like her

I can't think it would be very sensible for Disney to do this ... unless they gender swapped it to the Snow King perhaps ?
