There's a new Disney mobile game out called
Sorcerer's Arena. It looks cool and features a ton of Disney characters. Here's the
teaser and the
full trailer.

I like the looks of this game a lot. Seems to have a lot of classic characters including some obscure ones like Kronk, Madam Mim, the Sheriff of Nottingham, Zeus, the Horned King, and one of my absolute favorites, Pocahontas. She's rarely ever included in games like these.

Well, this certainly looks... Weird. I'll never not be irked when seeing the 3D PIXAR characters in 2D artwork alongside old Disney characters though. They might as well throw some Storm Troopers in there. Interesting that they included characters from Gargoyles and Rescue Rangers. Who is the character between the Horned King and Ariel (below Aladdin)?
I didn't have the time to watch the trailer, so I'll just ask: Is this a fighting game? If so, I'd be a little bittersweet about that. Just because I know Nomura (who writes Kingdom Hearts) had thought about making a Disney fighting game once before, but never asked Disney because he didn't think they would go for an idea like that since it would have their characters fighting. He even drew some concept art of it that included Ursula, the Queen of Hearts, etc. The idea was later realized with Final Fantasy characters as Dissidia. While I love Dissidia, too, I wish there was a Disney fighting game that includes Ursula, Hercules, Aladdin, Elsa, Maleficent, Moana, Tarzan, Merlin, etc. Fighting games can be done in a way that isn't bloody or overly violent, so it's too bad he didn't ask Disney. Even if Sorcerer's Arena was that, it's a mobile game, so I'll never play it anyway.
A good Disney racing game similar to Crash Team Racing that includes most of their classic characters is something else I can't believe has never happened before. I would love that, too.

I love Pocahontas too. It's a shame she's been ostracized from most projects and merchandise (aside from some paltry DP products) because some ridiculous people constantly complain about her "problematic" movie. She didn't even get a Sofia the First cameo for that reason.

Me too. I prefer having characters from live-action films like Pirates of the Caribbean, Tron, Hocus Pocus etc. bundled together with animated ones over Pixar characters. They usually fit better IMO and feel more Disney to me than Pixar.

That's Quorra from Tron: Legacy.

No it's a roleplaying game.

Warren Spector of Epic Mickey fame was working on a racing game called "Epic Disney Racers" before Disney shut down his studio.

The Gargoyles community has been keeping tabs on this project for months now, ever since Demona showed up in their materials online. TBH I’m not a gamer and Candy Crush and Angry Birds are more my speed (I know), but I’ll give it a shot. Is there not a very similar game for mobile with Disney characters? My roommate in Orlando used to play it all the time... the weird thing is sometimes “good” characters would be the bad guys but they’d make them look like zombies or something? What’s exactly the difference between these two games— different characters and design style I know, but what else?

Agree completely. It shocks me that people are so critical of this film when so many of Disney's latest will frankly be viewed as equally, if not moreso, problematic in the future. Did they ever confirm if Pocahontas was excluded from Sofia the First for exactly that reason?

You must be thinking of Disney Heroes: Battle Mode. Both games have similar art styles and character rosters so it does feel a tad bit redundant.

Aw, darn, that's a shame. I've never been able to play Epic Mickey, but what little I've read and seen, it was a quality project. I'm sure a racing game by him would've been amazing.

We lost so many potential projects because of that. Pocahontas would definitely had gotten a live-action remake or a stage musical if it wasn't for those very vocal critics.

Sort of. Here's what the showrunner said:
Craig Gerber wrote:We tried multiple times and we had stories that the writing staff and myself liked but it was just one of those things where along the way we just couldn't get consensus across the board on whether that fit with the show or maybe there's something off with the story from other people's points of view...But we really did try our best and I think there were probably like three times that we tried to include Pocahontas before I finally gave up.

Is this supposed to be like Tekken only with Disney characters?

On the image in the first post, the bear next to Merlin, is that the bear from Fox and the hound?

No, that's Mor'du from Brave.

I like seeing all these more obscure characters. Where's Elsa though? Why does Ariel have the trident? Why do I find Madam Mim on her little broom so funny?

She reminds me of Aladdin; I'm pretty sure there are images of him in the same exact pose...

I know by the late 90s, they were still planning a Pocahontas musical for Broadway after BATB and The Lion King. I think those plans somehow turned into Aida or perhaps they wanted to make an original musical first and due to the similarities between Aida and Pocahontas, they didn't feel the need to make Pocahontas afterwards. And by the time Aida was no longer in production, they no longer felt comfortable with Pocahontas.
Yeah, there's really no excuse as to why they couldn't include Pocahontas on Sofia the First. I never watched the show but I remember reading YouTube comments from fans who could think of numerous episodes and opportunities where Pocahontas could have presented herself.

Aurora was really forgetable in the Sofia the First, with a message that even Pocahontas could have made.
Example of messages Pocahontas could have made:
Be kind to animals
Listen to nature/ take care of nature
Never judge a person on how they look
Even if you look different, you can have alot of interests in common
Listen to the elders
Love to explore
Never be afraid to follow your heart
Do what is right even if someone else gets angry about it

Did anybody start playing this? I recently started and it's pretty fun although one of your typical pay-to-win app games. You unlock Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey, Ariel, and Sulley right off the bat. So far I have Aladdin and Buzz on the heroes side and Captain Hook, Gaston, Yzma, and Demona (from Gargoyles apparently. Never seen the show so don't really know her) on the villains side.

I forgot to respond to this earlier, but yes, I agree that Aurora (as well as some of the other princesses) had really generic messages that barely tied into their main themes.

Disney just sent out an email with a bunch of Raya stuff, like links to tickets, merch, soundtrack, and it says, "Raya Enters the Arena
Coming soon to Disney Sorcerer's Arena, Raya and Namaari prepare for battle."
