As the subject line indicates, I have a few questions about the versions of “The Wonderful World of Disney” (hereafter referred to as WWOD) that aired in the late 90s-2000s and then in the 2010s.
-I remember that the WWOD that started in 1997 usually aired on Sunday nights, but during some of it’s run, it aired on Saturday nights. When did it make the change? Did it go back to Sunday nights at some point after switching to Saturday, or did it end up staying on Saturday nights?
-Originally, the series aired as a weekly series, but at a certain point, it started being shown only occasionally (like a typical Movie Special). When did this occur? Once it became an occasional special, how often did it air before ending outright?
-I know that the series relaunched in 2015 with an airing of “Mary Poppins” in December of that year. I remember seeing a little bit of that broadcast with Dick Van Dyke in the Disney Archives and a new WWOD intro. From what I’ve read, the WWOD banner was also used when “Frozen” aired a year later. I also know that “Beauty and the Beast” aired a few times on ABC around Christmas and New Year’s. Did they use the WWOD banner? Did “Frozen” and “Beauty and the Beast” have a host?
-Does it seem to be the case that ABC is bringing back the WWOD banner/label and using it for the occasional Disney movie on TV, typically around the Christmas holiday?
Thank you.
