Cars on the Road

With Cars 3 underperforming at the box office and Lasseter gone, a TV series over a theatrical continuation seems the natural next step for the franchise.
And here’s to more from the "Cars" franchise, whatever’s coming next (I hear it’s a TV show!)

I know there are some who like the Cars movies, and I'm not trying to be judgemental, but I actually wouldn't mind a fouth and final Cars movie if they did some subversion of the Cars universe and what came before. First, get rid of Mater. Second, try to actually explore what it means to live in a world of living cars, planes and boats. No more racing, Doc Hollywood or preaching.

I need this great news after Election Day. I'm a HUUUUGE Corbin fan, and with Broadway closed, my man needs some work, so I hope this comes true. I like the Cars films, so even without him, I'd still watch, but please please please have this be true!!!

Next, @Pixar is speeding ahead with a new series following Lightning McQueen and Mater on a road trip across the country. Featuring new characters, old friends, and imaginative destinations. Coming to @DisneyPlus in Fall 2022.

I was hoping they'd mention Corbin's involvement at the presentation, since they mentioned Zac for his show. Still looking forward to this! (And reading my last post, Election Day worked out but I posted that before a winner was announced!)

Well, I thought Pixar had officially realized that people didn`t care for this franchise anymore. But apparently they haven`t :P For someone who actually liked the franchise, I don`t mind a new spinoff-series. While I hope that it won`t be too derivative from Mater Tall Tales.

I don't think Pixar fans will appreciate this.

Not sure why that matters much. Its a bad franchise anyway, has its moments, but its not so good that including a bit of reference from the spin off will taint it. Cars 2 did that enough on its own.

I don't have an issue with Planes characters being included, either. Hopefully it'll be a fun show.

I guess Pixar fans are more chill when it comes to stuff like that. It would really bother me if a WDAS movie or series included DisneyToon characters.

Characters from "Planes" already appeared in the Pixar short "Air Mater", which basically existed to set up "Planes." John Lasseter being heavily involved in the "Planes" movies is probably also why this isn't a big deal.

I've also seen support from plenty of people wanting to see the "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command" television series acknowledged in "Lightyear." So you're probably not wrong about Pixar fans being chill about this sort of thing.

The logo is not bad. I also like that both Lightning McQueen and Mater will star in this.

The logo looks a bit weird. I think it's because they made it more graphic and flat without any lines or shading. It looks more like clip-art now and it's inconsistent with the logos for Cars and Cars Toons.

What I like is the "on the road" part with the traffic signs. I don't mind the lack of shading, but it's true it would've been more consistent with the other logos if it wasn't so flat. Although, the logo for the first Cars used in the actual movie was a bit like this one.

Poster and trailer for the series.
The Disney+ Original series follows Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and his best friend Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) as they head east from Radiator Springs on a cross-country road trip to meet up with Mater’s sister. "The series is a romp across the country with Lightning McQueen and Mater," says director Steve Purcell. "Like any real road trip, every day is a new mini-adventure with unexpected twists and turns." "Cars on the Road" is produced by Marc Sondheimer. The series' episodes are directed by Steve Purcell, Bobby Podesta, and Brian Fee. Composer Jake Monaco created the score for all nine episodes.

Sorry for bumping this tread, but have you guys seen the series yet? And what are your thoughts about it? For someone who`s always liked the Cars franchise, I`m pleased with the shorts. It`s even surprising that they`ve received good reviews, due to how Cars has always been the Black Sheep of Pixar.

I've been watchin it. I love Cars and I collect as much Mattel's Cars as I can. I think that the first movie is visually beautiful and I have the feeling that almost nobody recognise that.
The shorts are great. Some of them like the Trucks one are more boring but other ones are just amazing. The one inspired by The Shining is really great!
The art style is similar to the first movie inspired by the 50s. I was watching my book of the art of the movie and is amazing how they added so much details on everything. I'm glad that they didn't simplify everything in the series like other studios does.
