Robin Hood (Live-Action)

Fans of the animated Robin Hood are going to be singing that joyous song all day once they hear this news: according to our sources – the same ones who told us that an Aladdin sequel is happening, a Ms. Marvel TV show was in the works and that a She-Hulk TV series was coming to Disney Plus, all of which have since been confirmed, so we have no reason to doubt them – Disney is currently in the early stages of developing a live-action reboot (similar to the style of the recent Lion King) of their 1973 classic. From what we understand, the studio will once again use animals in its storytelling. It’s a smart move, too, as many of the other live-action projects that have tried to tell the tale of Robin Hood with humans ended up disappointing at the box office.

I hope not. The animals in Lion King were pretty photorealistic, while the animals in Robin Hood are anthropomorphic. Their faces needs to be a little more expressive and cartoony than the characters in Lion King. If not, they could end up resembling Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox.

If Disney thinks that their Robin Hood will do better than previous adaptations at the box office just because it features animals, then they have another thing coming. They may as well remake King Arthur and Hercules with animals and see how that goes as a test run.

^

I’m not sure if I can really believe this, but…

I think the source is right that this might stand a better chance than other Robin Hood films simply because of them using animals + nostalgia for the Disney film. It’s sort of how I think a Tarzan that utilizes the Phil Collins songs would have an edge on something like The Legend of Tarzan a few years back which just looked bland.

I think it's hilarious that We Got This Covered is going through every single Disney animated movie in the hopes one of those remake scoops ends up being true. They've become so desperate and have been intensely doubling down on this ever since Guillermo del Toro called them out on their false reporting. You can tell del Toro's Tweet really shock them up.

Yes, it does seem like they are throwing many arrows hoping one of them will hit the target, just to say "see we told you so"... Like I'm pretty sure that even with Aladdin that was more an educated guess than a reliable source.

What’s next? Their scoop on a live action remake of Victory Through Air Power?

And while I completely doubt a live action remake of Robin Hood with animals, I hope they wouldn’t use that style from CATS which looks creepy AF. CATS reminds me of The Island of Dr. Moreau.

Disney is going to tell the tale of Robin Hood again, as the studio is in development on a live-action remake of the 1973 animated film

And they said Cats (2019) would have no impact!

How on earth is this going to be a CG/live-action hybrid? Will the environments be live-action, but the characters CG like Dinosaur? Will the characters be mo-caped? That's really expensive. The budget for Disney+ films is limited. Why are they keeping the characters as anthropomorphic animals? It makes no sense. Just remake it with real people, you weirdos! The original story was about humans to begin with! If this doesn't change, it will become a bigger visual/aesthetic disaster than The Lion King remake.
Disney has targeted Robin Hood as the latest of its animated classics to get the remake treatment.

Carlos Lopez Estrada, perhaps best known for directing the 2018 crime movie Blindspotting, is on board to helm the project, which is being written by Kari Granlund. Granlund is already in the Disney fold after having written the studio’s recent remake of Lady and the Tramp. Justin Springer, who counts the studio’s Dumbo and Tron Legacy amongst his credits, is producing the feature being developed for the studio’s Disney+ streaming service.

The new take is said to be a musical and will again feature the characters as anthropomorphic, this time in a live-action/CG hybrid format. The deals were inked before Hollywood’s lockdown. The project is in early development.

I guess Disney doesn't need to worry about if the film is a flop or not. They know the notoriety of Cats will keep this film talked about and a pop culture icon even for all the wrong reasons.

Look at it this way, they'll have to release the original as a tie-in (and to commemorate its 50th anniversary) not just on DVD and Blu-ray...but also 4K Ultra. ;)

Not necessarily. They haven't done that with Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and The Jungle Book.
