I didn't know they were making a fourth Despicable Me film and hadn't heard about Mark Dindal's Garfield movie or Chris Sanders' The Wild Robot. The latter sounds interesting and I'm glad Mark Dindal has a new project. I don't think he has directed anything since Chicken Little. By the way, the trailer for DreamWorks' Orion and the Dark has been released. I think it doesn't look bad.

The trailer for The Garfield Movie from Sony Pictures and directed by Mark Dindal has also been released. It doesn't look too appealing to me, but maybe it'll be better than it seems.

There's an off chance it gets nominated, if it indeed gets released this year since it still has no release date, but it's not a serious threat. Transformers One which was well-received at Annecy is more a serious contender than the Looney Tunes movie.

Two countries have selected an animated film as their entry for the International Feature Film category at this year's Oscars. This raises the total amount of animated entries in the history of the category to twenty nine. Palestine has selected a film that contains some animation in it.

There are more contenders this year than I thought. I knew about The Wild Robot, for example, and of course, Inside Out 2, but Flow, Memoir of a Snail or Pharrell Williams' documentary look quite strong as well.

I've just watched the trailer. It looks like video game animation, but the cinematography is nice and the story seems interesting.

I had like zero context for the "Wild Robot" movie until this week, but I saw a trailer for the film in theaters this week, and it actually looks quite nice. I'll probably catch it on the big screen and everything. I also really liked Naoko Yamada's work with "A Silent Voice," and so I'm hoping that her new film "The Colors Within" makes some waves.

This is one of those years where I don't see either Disney or Pixar's films being huge hits with me, so I could live with them missing out on the big trophy this year (or heck, I probably wouldn't lose sleep with them missing the nominations either), and this can just be one of those rounds where someone else gets a turn. Thus far into their sequel binge, they've been getting lots of monetary returns. Okay. Let them have that. Why should they get the Oscar gold too?

Inside Out 2 sounds like it's a good movie, not just because it made lots of $$$. Sometimes quality and financial success can come in one film. Not sure what else is coming out this year (Laika's Wildwood maybe?), but outside of something surprisingly strong, I would expect IO2 to be practically a lock.

Coincidentally, I saw a commercial for Wild Robot for the first time a few hours ago. Personally, I thought it looked sort of terrible.

Hoping it gets a Best Animated Feature nomination at the Oscars, especially now that it has a release date in the U.S.A. for February 28th.

The press release with the wide North-American release date touted Ketchup Entertainment’s “plans for an Academy Awards qualifying run.” To qualify for the 2025 Oscars, it will need to have a short theatrical play in calendar year 2024 before it releases wider in February.
