Here's hoping The Boy and the Heron will manage to break through and garner a nomination. It's the only 2D-animated film in contention this year that stands a chance. With the branch now being overrun by people working at the big Hollywood studios, it will be a tall order.

I still think Wish wins the award as the Oscars prefers musicals or musical fairytales as of recently, and with Phil Lord gloating about his toxic working conditions on Across The Spider-Verse, it could hurt that film’s chances of winning Best Animated Feature and may cost it being a nominee for Best Picture, even though I never saw it getting that nomination anyway.

I think The Boy and the Heron will most likely be nominated, though I doubt it'll win. By the way, its teaser trailer has been released this week, as well as the one for the Chicken Run sequel, which is a possible contender too. Here are also the synopses for both movies:

The Boy and the Heron
A young boy named Mahito yearning for his mother ventures into a world shared by the living and the dead. There, death comes to an end, and life finds a new beginning. A semi-autobiographical fantasy about life, death, and creation, in tribute to friendship, from the mind of Hayao Miyazaki.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget
For Ginger and the flock, all is at stake when the dangers of the human world come home to roost; they'll stop at nothing even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk to save chicken-kind. This time, they're breaking in!

In my opinion, I think The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Nimona could be eligible to be part of the nominees for the Oscars next year. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, because it was applauded for being the first “good” video game adaption, regardless of it’s quality and Nimona, since it’s story and representation of LGBT+ people were well received by the general public, apart from homophobes.
