Prior to merging with Fox next quarter in 2019, Walt Disney Studios is celebrating a $7 billion global B.O. win for 2018 YTD. It’s the second time in history any studio has surpassed the $7B mark, after Disney’s own industry-record 2016 global gross of $7.6B. Broken down, Disney earned an estimated $4.069B overseas through Dec. 9, marking the studio’s second biggest year and the third biggest in industry history.

Disney once again led all studios and on Sunday celebrated its own milestone: Its 2018 slate, led by Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Incredibles 2, has generated north of $3 billion domestically to top the industry mark Disney set in 2016 when it hit $3 billion, a first for any distributor.

Approximately $5 billion is thanks to Pixar and Marvel, which means approximately $2 billion are the four live action films + Ralph + Star Wars.

It may be uncommon for now, but with Disney having eaten so many companies (and surely looking at more), I'm sure passing 7 billion will become a yearly thing for them.

All that franchise money and still so little risk taking... I guess they have dividends to pay.

After this weekend, the company has surpassed $7.67 billion worldwide, smashing the benchmark previously set by Disney in 2016 with $7.61 billion. And that number will only increase with Frozen 2 and The Rise of Skywalker later this year, not to mention The Lion King and even Toy Story 4 are still running strong.

To be honest, I'm not impressed.
Now if Disney makes a film which will win more than 11 Academy Awards...

I would’ve thought they’d already be way past that what with Toy Story 4, Avengers: Endgame, The Lion King, and Aladdin.

They are talking about domestic gross, not worldwide.

I know that. That's why I didn't mention Maleficent, which has a low domestic gross.

I'm sorry I thought otherwise. I just assumed that 3B is a lot for domestic.

I'm sorry if that came across snippy. I had just edited part of my post that mentioned Maleficent's 500 million intake because I knew that was international just before you posted, and I thought that might be what you were referring to.

I'm glad. I've often found I offend people even when I'm not trying to my whole life. The past few years I've fallen into a bad habit of not even bothering to try anymore, but decided lately that it's always worth trying regardless of how other people act or react.

So Disney made 3 billion more than last year.... And that itself was a record. I'm not saying this with awe; I'm more disturbed that one studio is pulling so much money in now.

The difference is that the money from last year came from Marvel and Pixar, while this year everything they released was successful except Dumbo and Maleficent.
