The movie is going to be a prequel focusing on a young Willy Wonka. Ryan Gosling, Donald Glover, and Ezra Miller are reportedly the top contenders for the role. From the three, Ezra is the most suitable one for this character, in my opinion.

David Tennant would be my top choice. As much as I like Wilder and Depp's portrayals, it would be nice to see an actor from the UK play the role on film for once. I always imagined the cast of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" as hailing from the United Kingdom, when I read the book. Maybe Tennant could voice him for the Netflix animated series?

Don’t know about Donald Glover if Wonka will sing i can say he is the best Singer out of the there but i’m not sure he has the acting skill at least not enough for this role. I mean he is following Gene Wilder, Johhny ” God Dame ” Deep and Doguals Hodge in the role !!

A prequel for this story feels a little odd. I wonder how it would perform, if some might suppose it's another re-telling of the Chocolate Factory story rather than a prequel or not.

Back in 2018, Collider reported that Ryan Gosling, Donald Glover and Ezra Miller were being eyed to star, but those names have all fallen by the wayside since then. Lately, sources say that Warners has its eye on either Tom Holland or Timothée Chalamet to play the eccentric confectioner.

That's a shame about Ezra Miller. I think he would've been perfect for this, but I think he might have made some enemies during the making of the film based on his version of The Flash from Justice League (if that film wasn't cancelled?). I like both Holland and Chalamet, even if it's hard for me to picture either of them as the character. I would pick Chalamet between those two.

Good. Ezra Miller would've been better for this role, but Chalamet was the best second option, imo.

Not gonna lie, he looks pretty good as a younger Willy Wonka.

Still not sure why we need a Willy Wonka origin story though. Part of the appeal of a character like Willy Wonka is the mystery. Spelling out exactly who he is and where he's from ruins that. Also, the 2005 movie already gave him an origin that, in my opinion, was pretty well done.

I think so too. I'm guessing this iteration is going to be a more serious take on the character.

I haven't seen the clip, but I remember seeing the image of Chalamet as Wonka during SNL one night. He's so cute and a great actor to boot.
