Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced today that Lucasfilm is in development on a second Star Wars live-action series for Disney+, the Company’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service. The series, which will go into production next year, follows the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Diego Luna will reprise the role of Andor. “Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” said Luna. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”
The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire. A release date for the series has not yet been announced.

I loved Cassian's character! I'm really psyched that he's getting his own series. For a second there, I thought he was getting his own solo movie which seemed unlikely after Solo.

I like Diego a lot, but is his character popular enough to warrant a series?
Though it'd be fun if they brought Gael García Bernal to star in the series as well. Charolastras together again!

I never saw The Americans but I always wanted to after hearing the raving reviews for it, so I'm glad that its showrunner will be working on this. Disney is really grabbing all the talent between this and the Game of Thrones makers getting their own Star Wars films.

I really liked him and I think audiences did as well, although it seems that these days only Jyn gets attention. I'd love a Jyn spinoff showing what she was up to before the events of Rogue One either. I know there's a Young Adults book for that but I heard mixed reviews on it.
He should definitely co-star or make a guest appearance and so should Maribel Verdú.

Why her? She's not Mexican and not a part of the group, hell she only starred in one film with them. She's a white Spaniard so I don't the representation quota that she'd fit if you're gonna say something about Hispanic representation.

I don't know about her background but I wanted to see her as a reunion of the main cast of Y Tu Mamá También. That's the only movie I've seen with Diego and Gael together in. Do they have a lot of other films together?

There's Y Tu Mamá También, but there's also Rudo y Cursi (a football film, overall much light-hearted than Mamá, but also comments on the superficiality of celebrity life) and Casa de mi Padre (a silly Will Ferrel comedy I think).
Overall, they tend to do a lot of activism together outside of theater. They're basically twins in that they're best friends in real life, resembling somewhat brothers (grew up together).
And yes, Diego voiced the main lead in the Book of Life, the movie about Día de los Muertos that Coco might have "ripped off" in a way...Or not.

I didn't realize they had done so many films together nor that they've practically grown up together. I always assumed that their pairing came from Y Tu Mamá También. I might have to check out some of those films you mentioned.

In light of George Lucas coming on board, I’ll take that announcement with a grain of salt.

These George Lucas rumors have already been debunked. I'm shocked anyone was naive enough to believe them in the first place when they were clearly clickbait.

Even visiting the Illuminerdi website, it looks like it was made by a kid with a blogger account. Definitely not a legitimate source.

Rogue One had a lot of deleted characters and concepts so I'm glad to hear they'll be making use of that.

I like Mon Mothma and I'm glad she's returning. Another article recently said that Bail Organa and General Draven will be back or they are planned to be back.
