I mean… you hire an intergalactic fugitive from justice, you can’t be surprised when arson happens.

But seriously, hope everything was okay!

That's true. I wasn't considering the players involved in this particular film.

Despite its several hurdles, the film wrapped production earlier this year and is expected to be released on Disney+ sometime this year.

Teaser, now coming to theaters 2025: https://x.com/DisneyStudios/status/1822128805961732497

Disney has clearly rethought their release strategy with theatrical and Disney+

The first image I saw of him online, I thought he was a practical puppet. So I agree, I think he looks pretty good.

To me, Lilo and Stitch should translate to live action much more readily than other animated films. It’s essentially a “girl and her dog” movie, of course, with lots of fantastical, sci-fi elements.

I’ve been listening to the original songs from the film on repeat in my car lately. Wishing I was in Hawaii!

It does look good... but I would prefer it if they used a mix of puppets/animatronics and CGI so it doesn't look so obviously fake.

Well, I liked the teaser, despite how it was very meta. But it was expected to be like that. Stitch looked like expected in CGI and looked like a hairball :P So this remake is going to be a Theatrical release after all, huh? But at least it should be one, due to how the predecessor was a Theatrical hit, after all.

I can't believe you guys thought Stitch looked good. :? His design translated very poorly in CG. The muted colors, the eyes, the expressions, the photorealistic fur, make the character look uncanny. During that short announcement teaser, he looked way off in most of the shots. Take any image of original Stitch and compare it to this one, and the difference becomes quite stark. Stitch no longer has the appeal he once did.

I don't think its impossible to translate his appeal into CG, but they missed the mark for sure. I think what bothers me the most is probably the fur. Its mostly uniform. I would try to go with something more...cat like I guess? what I mean is, the fur on his belly should have more fluffy tuffs compared the short fur on his forehead.

I think it's an impressive translation of the literal 2d design, but like ... how on earth are we expected to believe that people in-universe would ever actually think this is anything but an alien?

I’m honestly just happy Stitch doesn’t look like a terrifying uncanny valley monster and instead looks pretty faithful to his OG counterpart.

Based on the amount of views across all social media platforms, Disney’s biggest box office hit of 2025 COULD be live-action Lilo And Stitch.

Why do I believe this?

Observe all views the 10-second announcement with Stitch’s new CG design got on social media.

Instagram - 121.6M views (on par with the first teaser trailer of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Moana 2)
TikTok - 74.7M views (and almost double the 4M likes of Snow White’s teaser trailers over there)
Facebook - 11.1M views
YouTube - 212K views
Twitter - 877K views

That’s 208.5M views across all social media after 24 hours.

Compare to that Snow White’s first teaser (98M views) and the new trailer for
Mufasa: The Lion King (67.5M views).

And unlike the trailers for both those movies, this 10-second announcement seems to have gotten positive reception for Stitch’s design not getting an Ugly Sonic treatment.

So perhaps Disney’s realization about how much Lilo & Stitch really saved their animation division back in the early 2000’s will pay off with the potential success of this live-action take on the beloved animated classic, assuming that it’s done justice with the director of the critically-acclaimed Marcel The Shell With Shoes On helming it.

We’ll find out next summer…

What do you guys think?

I like his design in CGI, he looks like the animated character.

all they have to do is make his "disguise" more convincing. If they have to, they can morph him more. He's an alien, so why cant he be a bit of a shape shifter?

I think he does look like an uncanny valley monster. He looks like a taxidermy'd toy or something. they left out aspects of the og that make him appealing, and it comes down to porportion, color, the way his limbs taper, all that adds up to looking very off to me.

Well, stitch is more than arguably the most Meta let alone Crossover Disney character, when you also especially consider the marketing they did for the original movie which also carried over into the TV show…… :-) So it’s more than appropriately fits :-)

BTW, I think his design looks great and it truly feels like the extra time they had truly benefitted it looking even better than it could have! :-) I’m getting more and more excited for this! :-)

Could have looked better, but I’m not mad at the way Stitch looked here. He still looks cute. Among the three live action, this is the only one I want to see.

This movie is going to be controversial for Nani (half filipina actress who is white passing and ignores Nani struggle to find a good job due to racism and colorism), them taking Cobra Bubbles in favor a native hawaiian character (the actress apparently lied about her ethnicity and she's japanese from Hawaii) David actor almost being whitewashed (luckily they recasted him fast)

But the director made a cute movie, Marshel the shell with the shoes on, so I'm hopeful

The kid they chosed for Lilo is very cute so if her scenes are well made I can ignore Nani scenes
