Don't worry, I DON'T hate you

But i HATE Avenue Q it's so GROS and disgusting. Also very Insetive, Porngrapic and unfunny It's not poignant in my opinion just god damn depressing. If Jim Hanson was alive and know Sesam Street inspired that show would proabbly CRY

I do like book of Mormon however altough nothing is GREAT AS WICKED !! :) :) :)

I'l rather watch the Happytim Murders to be copmlety honest . At least that has Maya Rudolph from SNL :) .

Than again what do i know since find Sotuh Park offensive and unfunny

I agree that Avenue Q won that award fairly, but in my opinion, Wicked's win would have been just as fair. Tough call. Yes, Avenue Q can be gross, but like blackcauldron85 said, it can be so funny and so poignant! I also love South Park. :p

When speaking to EW about his stage adaptation of The Prince of Egypt, Schwartz had a tantalizing update on the long-awaited Wicked movie. "Progress was being made both in terms of the writing and in terms of pre-production," he tells EW. "Some of that can continue, but a lot of where we were has to be put on hold." "It'll start up again when we're able to do it and that is moving forward," he reflects. "I can't predict the date of when that will actually go into production and will actually be released. But all I can say is that it's most definitely in process and in progress."

Imelda Staunton needs to introduction when it comes to Harry Potter fans. In that franchise, Staunton played the cruel and vile, Dolores Umbridge. Now we have heard that Imelda might be making a trip back to the world of Witchcraft and Wizardry, no it is not Harry Potter, but the land of Oz. We have heard from a very reliable source that director Stephen Daldry is interested in casting Mrs. Staunton in his upcoming film, Wicked. Daldry apparently wants Staunton for the role of Madame Morrible. In the land of OZ. Madame Morrible is a witch and the Headmistress of Crage Hall at Shiz University. She also recruits young girls as soldiers and spies for the Wizard himself.

Earlier this week we got some exciting news that Wicked director Stephen Daldry was looking at Imelda Staunton for the role of Madame Morrible. There still has been no confirmation that any talks have happened or if an offer has been made. I will add that a recent Production Weekly listing does back up our report that Imelda is a person of interest. Their listing also indicates filming is expected to being in January 2021 in London, New York and Los Angeles. With the current pandemic though all production dates should be taken with a grain of salt. The film was already pushed from its 2021 release date so a 2022 release date would be most likely.

Some more exciting news that we have heard but I cannot verify further so also take this news with a grain of salt is that casting is ramping up. We have been told from a reliable source but again this is just a rumor for now, producers are interested in Dove Cameron and Lili Reinhart for the role of Galinda/Glinda the Good Witch. Lili is currently attached to the hit CW series, Riverdale and Dove is known for her role as Mal in the Descendants film series. Dove has been fancast and rumored for the movie for some time but our source hears that she is a legitimate contender for a role in the movie.

Imelda Staunton is a fine choice, if a little boring. I don’t know much of the work of the women named here for Glinda, so I can’t say anything about them. I hope Kristin and Idina can cameo— it would be kind of cute to do a POV shot in the Emerald City where the glasses make Idina look green!

I loved Imelda Staunton as Umbridge so I'd be all for her as Madame Morrible!

Never been into Dove Cameron so I hope they go for a more inspired casting even if she was the fan favorite. I think Emma Watson as Belle has proven that popular fancasts aren't always the best way to go. Never seen Riverdale to comment on the other actress.

I'd love for Lea Michelle to play Elphaba, a popular fancast I actually do support.

Yes Umbrellafish, that would be such a cool idea of a green Idina and also a Kristen cameo!

JeanGreyForever, I completely agree. Please, cast someone better for Glinda, Daldry!

I love Avenue Q, too! Hilarious and touching at the same time... "For Now" always makes me tear up... "The More You Ruv Someone" and "I Wish I Could Go Back to College" always make me laugh so hard. It's one of the reasons I was excited when the Lopezes were working with Disney on Frozen, and then (IMO at least) they knocked that one out of the park as well.

I love Imelda Staunton, she's a great actress. She'd be a big asset for any film.

Is that hyperbole? This movie is definitely getting made sooner than later because the musical is still hugely popular.

I think farerb is thinking to the several years of development the movie has been in.

I do think the movie will happen one day. I believe what keeps delaying it is Stephen Schwartz's perfectionism. He reportedly wants the movie to be something special and doesn't want it made until the script is just right. Then there's the issue of casting, which I believe hasn't started yet. I personally would cast Samantha Barks as Elphaba myself (fittingly, Barks is set to play Elsa in the London run of the "Frozen" stage musical).

Universal probably really wants to do it. They moved pretty quickly on getting the "Dear Evan Hansen" movie off the ground, so the failure of "Cats" obviously hasn't deterred them from producing more musicals. They just need to wait on Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman to get the script to a place they're satisfied with and now they have to find a new director.

I suppose I was overeager here. 2031 may be more likely.

You mean like farerb is kidding, estefan? Well, I was kind meaning that when I asked if he was using hyperbole. Thank you, estefan, I did not know all that about Schwartz! I know how troubling it can be to get a special project done, with my own writing. I think, though, if it gets to take too long and he still isn't satisfied, he will give in and just use the best script they ended up with.

I’ve seen his Crazy Rich Asians but none of his musical or dance films. Still, it’s always reassuring to see a director who is already comfortable with the genre for movie musical projects. I’ve been anticipating this movie for... about ten years, so I hope it will be good!

Casting is close to starting and Schwartz will be wiring new songs for the film.
According to Schwartz, the production process is really gearing up, with casting of the two main characters Elphaba and Galinda about to be underway.

“We don't know who that's going to be yet,” he said. “You know we're just now at the stage where we're really seriously starting to talk about casting. It's really exciting. Yeah, but I have no idea. I'm not even being coy. I literally have no idea who's going to be Elphaba, who's going to be good, but, you know, that's something that we're going to have to know pretty soon.”

Schwartz said he is writing new songs for the film adaption, but they won’t just be written so that the film can snag more trophies, since music needs to be original for film adaptations to win Golden Globes or Academy Awards.

“If there's going to be a new song, or more than one new song, it will be because the story is demanding that particular moment or idea or situation to be musicalized,” he said. “There's not going to be a new song just because we say let's stick something in and see if we can win an Oscar.”

It's hard to believe he's doing new songs not for the Oscar. But if the script really is different enough to garner new songs, that may be really great.
