Everyone this is not a drill! The classic Mickey shorts are coming to Blu-ray at long last!:

It may be a compilation, but it's something! Thank you Disney! :D

Sounds promising. I only hope that they stay away from the new shorts that have aired on the Disney Channel, Get a Horse and some of the other Mickey material already released on Blu Ray and stick with the classic Mickey shorts from Walt's era. If they do that and it sells well, maybe Disney might be swayed to release more animated short collections on Blu.

They confirmed 13 classic shorts.

Also, the cover is up (confirming the release will be a Blu-ray/DVD combo):

Not what we had in mind, but I guess it will have to do

Sorry if I say this but, I think that cover is ugly.
It doesn't look professional drawn.

Agreed, while it's great for collectors. You'd think they'd do something a bit better.

I'll definitely pick this up, for nothing else more than to hopefully encourage more shorts releases. I've been going through a Disney Blu-ray binge-buy the past couple of weeks anyway, just to have everything on Blu-ray before Disney starts concentrating more and more on digital.

I agree. Maybe it's not the final cover, but the drawings are horrible. At first I thought it could be fan-made, but that cover is on Amazon, so I guess it's official.

Agree, my mind for the final cover could change if this picture really is just a mock-up for the cover and they will re-do the drawings of Mickey. :)
Because Mickey here is very off-model (except the colored one I think) even by Disney covers standard.

Why couldn't they just use Mark Henn's "Mickey 90th birthday" portrait instead as the cover? Just pay him some extra money for it and you would have a great cover. Imagine a shiny glossy slipcover with that picture. :P

Really?!!? That's the best they could do?

13 shorts? I know that that's best than nothing, but I'm pretty sure a Blu-ray can hold an awful lot more than that.

Since it's Mickey's 90th birthday, shouldn't there be 90 shorts? :P

The Pixar shorts Blu-rays, for instance, also have a similar number of shorts. I think it's because as each short is more or less 7 minutes long, 13 shorts together make the run time of a movie. And they make this Blu-rays mainly for children, so they probably take into consideration that it isn't too long for them if they decide to play these shorts one after the other.

Would have loved that as a cover. This is subpar even for Disney standards.

Does Mickey even have 90 shorts? Should have just released his entire collection on Blu-Ray but that's a pipedream.

Yes, according to Wikipedia he has 130 shorts. I agree, they should've released his entire collection on Blu-ray. Maybe they'll do that for the 100th anniversary.

Oh wow, that's a lot more than I thought. I figured he had around 60-75 shorts.

In 10 years, we'll be lucky if Disney still releases physical media.

Well, in some of his shorts Pluto is the real protagonist and the ones with him, Donald and Goofy are also part of his series, so the number of shorts with him as the only lead is a bit lower, but he still has a lot of shorts.

It's true (sigh). Maybe they'll only be available on its streaming service.

Not as long as there are people like me supporting the format.

I'll continue supporting it too. I hope it doesn't die completely.

I believe Disney meant for the cover to be a “doodle type” sketch. Don’t get me wrong it is ugly lol  but I do see where Disney is coming from and I like that. :D
Off Topic: I just recently purchased “My Movies Pro” App for my iPhone and I love it! Let’s me keep track of all my physical media I’ve purchased so I don’t mistakenly double dip.
Back on Topic: And it’s so funny, I just scanned my Disney collection in Sunday and with all my Walt Disney Treasures, I was saying to myself how it would be awesome to have them all on Blu-ray and digital.. and now look! It’s about to start happening (hopefully!) 8) :milkbuds:

Best Buy Canada now has the complete listing for the shorts included in Celebrating Mickey!:

Steamboat Willie (1928)
The Band Concert (1935)
Mickey's Rival (1936)
Thru the Mirror (1936)
Boat Builders (1938)
Brave Little Tailor (1938)
Mickey's Trailer (1938)
Tugboat Mickey (1940)
The Little Whirlwind (1941)
Mickey's Birthday Party (1942)
Pluto's Party (1952)
The Simple Things (1953)
Get A Horse (2013)

Not bad, I myself got a selection right. With that, I am concerned about the which titles for Thru the Mirror and The Band Concert will be used. To me it's original or nothing (not settling with those faux original titles), but if Disney gave us the RKO logo for Bambi Signature Edition, who knows.

I am going to contact them next week (part of my Facebook campaign) so I can make sure this error doesn't happen.
