Re: WDHE Talks Future of Blu-ray, 3D & Streaming
it could be worth it if they include all the Disney shows from the 90s. That may be the reason they've been so reluctant to release them on dvd. And all the old tv specials/movies , old live action films, full animated library(including shorts,) Marvel, Star Wars, etc. That's a lot of content. Too bad they gave up the Ghibli rights.

Re: WDHE Talks Future of Blu-ray, 3D & Streaming
Interesting details about Disney's new streaming service. Glad to hear that the Marvel superheros shows will remain on Netflix. Interesting that they're going with another remake, this time for Lady and the Tramp. Can't even imagine how this one will go but since they're doing Dumbo and The Lion King, and have already done The Jungle Book and 101 Dalmatians, I suppose it makes sense. At this rate, we can expect Bambi as well.
Interesting that The Sword in the Stone will not be a theatrical feature then. Maybe because they already have another King Arthur feature plus a Merlin movie planned for theaters.

Re: WDHE Talks Future of Blu-ray, 3D & Streaming
Magic Camp has been finished for a while now. It even has an MPAA rating. It was bound to be released eventually. I just hope Disney doesn't treat this streaming service as a dumping ground for movies they don't think will sell.blackcauldron85 wrote:And yay Magic Camp isn't dead!
And since it will be a slow roll-out to other countries, it sucks for those who might be excited for the Monsters Inc television series or Nicole.

Re: WDHE Talks Future of Blu-ray, 3D & Streaming
The approximatre production budget for the streaming service's original content has been revealed.
Source: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/05/busi ... rauss.htmlAt least nine movies are in production or advanced development, with budgets ranging from $20 million to $60 million. Original movies will include “Timmy Failure,” which has a $45 million budget. Most series will cost $25 million to $35 million. A live-action “Star Wars” series coming to the platform from Jon Favreau is expected to cost roughly $100 million for 10 episodes.
Source: https://variety.com/2018/film/news/loki ... 202947551/Many of these projects are expensive bets. The Star Wars series will reportedly cost $100 million and the movies are expected to carry budgets north of $25 million.

Re: Disney Streaming Service
I have never read The Paper Magician, but I'm very curious about how the movie will turn out.
Also curious about Don Quixote. My first encounter with the concept was a slightly altered character in a comic book:

Re: Disney Streaming Service
Disney's new streaming service will (probably) be called "Disney Play". It's not a bad name and fits with their Disney Channel-based app "Disney Now".
Update: It turns out that's not the name of the streaming service after all.
Source: https://variety.com/2018/digital/featur ... 202910463/For starters, Disney will say goodbye to about $300 million in annual revenue it currently gets from Netflix for pay-TV rights to its theatrical releases, starting with its 2019 movie slate. Those movies — including “Captain Marvel,” “Dumbo,” “Toy Story 4,” “The Lion King,” “Frozen 2” and a new “Star Wars” installment — will now be key selling points for the new service Iger has referred to as “Disney Play.”
Update: It turns out that's not the name of the streaming service after all.
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly cited Disney Play as a working name for Disney’s streaming service.

Re: Disney Streaming Service
I was expecting them to be animated shows but looks like they will be live-action shows with the actual actors from the MCU. Looking forward to Wanda's show and hope it follows her comic series or at least features Vision.

What's more interesting than the film actors reprising their roles is that Marvel Studios will be producing the shows instead of Marvel Television which hasn't happened before.

Re: Disney Streaming Service
Loki and Bucky are my fave MCU characters. Looking more and more like Ill be getting this service.
My fear is the whole tiering system they're planning though. I have a feeling that most of the classic Disney stuff (like the animated shorts and Disney Afternoon shows and especially the old live action films and special/shows) are gonna be relegated to the high pay scale tier since its the most niche, not fair if you ask me.
anyone else worried that there's gonna be too many streaming services? streaming was supposed to be a less pricey alternative to cable tv but it looks like we are gonna end up paying for all the shows we really want to see just as much. DC has a streaming service too, and now Apple will have one. Along with that there's already CBS, Netflix and Amazon. I'm worried its gonna get out of hand.

Re: Disney Streaming Service
The streaming service will be called Disney Plus (stylized as Disney+), just like their recent ESPN service ESPN+. The name is not bad but its potential association with the failed social network Google+ is unfortunate. Also, I don't like that the plus symbol in the logo is curved.

I wish WDAS were treated as a separate and distinct brand (like Pixar) and not lumped in with Disney live-action and everything else that doesn't form part of either Pixar, Marvel or Star Wars.

What will Disney+ offer?
According to reports, Disney plans to have four to five original movies and five original TV series released on the streaming service in the first year. They plan to invest up to $35 million for each original series with up to 10 episodes per season.
Anything R-rated will be moved to Hulu once Disney owns a majority of Hulu. Marvel shows and movies will not be coming to Disney+. According to Deadline, they will stay with Netflix for the foreseeable future.
The new Disney+ streaming service will launch with big names like High School Musical and Monsters Inc. There will be an original Star Wars-branded title and movies including 3 Men and a Baby, Sword and the Stone, and Timmy Failure.
We also recently learned that Disney will be making three Star Wars shows. One will be animated giving a final season to the Clone Wars and there will be two live-action Star Wars shows.
