Angelina Jolie & David Oyelowo To Star In Fantasy ‘Come Away’; ‘Brave’ Helmer Brenda Chapman’s Live-Action Debut
http://deadline.com/2018/05/angelina-jo ... 202386082/
Come Away is imagined as a prequel to Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan. Before Alice went to Wonderland, and before Peter became Pan, they were brother and sister. When their eldest brother dies in a tragic accident, they each seek to save their parents (Jolie & Oyelowo) from their downward spirals of despair until finally they are forced to choose between home and imagination. This sets the stage for their iconic journeys into Wonderland and Neverland.

I feel like I've heard about this movie before. At least I remember reading about a movie based on Alice and Peter. It does sound interesting though, even more with those two actors involved. Thanks for posting,
D82.

The premise sounds interesting. I'm surprised Disney didn't try to buy the project. Re-imagined fairy tales is totally in their wheelhouse.

Come Away appears to be independently produced and doesn't seem to have a US distributor yet. Hopefully, a major one picks it up, so it gets a significant release. Disney or even a distributor like Focus Features would be a good fit for this movie. Jolie is already working on two other Disney films this year (Maleficent 2 and a voice role in My One and Only Ivan), so I can see Disney wanting a trifecta of Jolie pictures on their release slate.

I find it odd Disney didn't scoop this up for Disney+. It's something totally in their wheelhouse and directed by a Disney alumna to boot. They have no problem buying other movies for the service produced by third-party studios like Black Beauty and Clouds, so why not this one? It's a family-friendly, race-bending, re-imaginging of fairytales. All the things they love.

Something about that poster makes me think of a season advertisement for Once Upon a Time.

So it's about Peter and Alice just being kids who use their imaginations to deal with problems at home? It looks weird. Jolie seems to be rather good in this. It is nice to see a black guy and a white woman together for a fairy tale adaptation though.

I think that it looks like a well-made film...I know that it's not Disney, but I'm always going to feel like "That's not
my Alice/Peter" because I'm just weird about remakes, even though it's not a Disney remake, if that makes sense. I know it's its own take on the material, a different spin...I'm just weird. Disney Duster, I agree: I also think it's great to have a Black man and a white woman, and mixed-race children. Representation matters. A lot of YouTube comments were really unhappy with that decision, though.

Aw, that's a shame. Well, it's a different take, let it be different!

Well, this movie was very disappointing. It was worth seeing once. I mean, it was okay as far as middle-of-the-road family fare goes, just I thought it would be more what with the literary allusions and Angelina Jolie's involvement. I didn't realize Miss Bingley would be in this though!

She was actually my favorite part of this even though the character was a jerk. The film was actually more melancholy and dark than I thought it would be, with the brother dying at the beginning, the father getting his hand crushed, the class issues and marital issues, grief, etc. It was a bit too overdramatic at points, but at least it
tried, I guess.
As far as these kinds of real life films with literary allusions in the background or overlayed on top of the story, I prefer
Phoebe in Wonderland by a huge mile to this.
