Disney is developing a TV show based on High School Musical for its new streaming service set to launch in late 2019. This is in addition to the re-quel film High School Musical 4 currently in the works. No further information has been released as of yet.

I wonder if the original characters will serve as teachers or advisers, or occasionally guest-star from episode to episode like in 90210.

Nini has 2 moms- that's pretty huge! As a big HSM fan, who is older than the demographic for the new show, part of me feels like I might be let down, but I'm super excited for new renditions of the HSM songs! I'm hoping that some of the original cast will make appearances; I'm not holding my breath, but I'm hoping!!

I don't like that they're being so meta. I'm also not sure a documentary-style format is suitable for this franchise.

Hate to be negative, but yup. I am confused why their production is High School Musical....in the universe where High School Musical happened. Like yeah, make what happened and the songs from the movie musical (Breaking Free, What I've Been Looking For etc.) a story in the play. But, to make it line-by-line like the first one AND add the songs that the characters sang without the show (Stick to the Status Quo, We're All in this Together, Me and You etc.) is way unrealistic even in fictional standards.

I had that problem in the third movie when the stage musical had the opening song and I Want It All. What, did Kelsi spy on them and wrote down everything they sang? The finale in the third movie was enough of a "destroy the fourth wall" for me and I cringe watching the scene.

Disney is lucky I was born in the right time because the 12 year old in me will still watch it

This looks good! Love "Stick to the Status Quo!" Shocked that a Disney show has a (bleeped) "S"-word.

Lol, I went in with low expectations but the trailer was pretty hilarious. I didn't expect Disney would get so meta with the jokes but I'm definitely going to be watching this.

I didn't like it at all. I didn't think it was funny and I can't stand the meta angle. I wish they had done a straight-forward series about the next generation of students at the same high school with new musical numbers.

Just finished the pilot. I am going to follow this show, it seems promising.
I would call it a Glee version with HSM songs in it.

I loved Glee so I'm glad to hear about that. Will check this show out soon.

Yay! This was so good! I had avoided the original song on Vevo on YouTube so I wouldn't be spoiling it, and it's just as good as the other HSM songs. I'll definitely be getting this soundtrack!
