Anyone interested in going? Sounds a lot of fun!
Eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken and three-time Oscar nominee and Honorary Academy Award recipient Angela Lansbury will join voice actors Paige O’Hara, Richard White and Robby Benson, supervising animators Andreas Deja, Mark Henn and Glen Keane, key story artist Brenda Chapman, Oscar-nominated producer Don Hahn, and director Gary Trousdale onstage for a 25th anniversary celebration of “Beauty and the Beast” on Monday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
Part of the Academy’s Marc Davis Celebration of Animation, the event will include a screening of the 1991 film from a pristine 70mm original theatrical release print from the Academy Film Archive. There will also be an onstage discussion about the film’s lasting impact and its place in motion picture history as the first animated feature to be nominated for Best Picture.
Tickets for the “25th Anniversary Screening of Beauty and the Beast: A Marc Davis Celebration of Animation” are $5 for general admission and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID, and may be purchased online at
http://www.oscars.org. The Samuel Goldwyn Theater is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.

Cool! How I wish I could see it again! The only time I saw it on the big screen was during its 3D theatrical engagement, and it was an awesome experience.

Unfortunately since I happen to live outside US, I can't attent to go. It would've been something to be there.

Why does it say "A Marc Davis Celebration of Animation"? He's dead...and he never worked on Beauty and the Beast.

I am excited for the possible merchandise Disney Store might chose to release to commemorate this anniversary! There are rumors online of them releasing a limited edition 17" Belle doll, and possibly also Gaston and the Beast (and/or hopefully prince Adam!) as 17" dolls as well.
I guess Beauty and the Beast kicking off a second wave of the legacy soundtrack collection this Fall is to much to hope for...

Hey everyone,
I have been meaning to post about this for a few days now...
So... I was lucky enough to attend the 25th anniversary event (which was completely sold out)... it was really wonderful, but what I wanted to address is the film itself. It was shown from a 70mm print from 1991... which means no tampered colors, no corrections, no "Human Again". I know there is an ongoing debate about the colors of this film, and I have to say that after watching this print... yes, they WERE DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT. The whole film was way darker... Belle's hair was dark brown, without a hint of red. The colors were very rich... Belle's gown was rich gold, not yellow. Her pink dress was a sort of faded pink... I am not fully convinced these colors were the filmmakers' intent: skin tones were kinda yellow-y...
I have to say... the film SOUNDED amazing (even Don Han told me personally he was surprised how good it sounded)... and I actually liked a little bit of grain...
I must say, makes me think twice about the blu-ray colors...

Hi Marcey, so happy you got to experience Beauty and the Beast in its true presentation. I just ordered the original VHS, to have it myself.
Did they mention anything about the film's next Blu-ray release?

Hey Teppy,
Good call on ordering the VHS... I still have mine in storage.
No, they didn't mention anything about upcoming releases. Consider that this event was not held by the disney company, but by the Academy of Arts and Sciences... so nothing about upcoming films, merchandise, or anything alike. It was all focused on the making of the original film... WHICH WAS AWESOME

Wow sounds like an amazing experience to see the original film as it was truly meant to be seen. I just wish the upcoming Blu-ray release would look like the version you saw. I suppose I'll just have to repurchase the VHS so I can watch the movie as it was intended.

But JeanGreyForever, Marce82 said "I am not fully convinced these colors were the filmmakers' intent: skin tones were kinda yellow-y...", meaning that the darker colors probably were not what the filmakers originally intended.

please tell me I'm not the only one who doesn't give a damn about what the movie's "intended" colors are. It could be black and white and no one would bat an eye.
