Freeform is venturing into the Marvel universe.

The younger-skewing Disney-owned network has greenlit “Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger” with a straight-to-series order, Variety has exclusively learned.

Described as a superhero love story, “Cloak and Dagger” is based on the titular comic book duo (also known as Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson) who have appeared in Marvel Comics classics, including “Spiderman” and “X-Men” stories.

Although generally anything on ABC Family, sorry Freeform, would worry me, I am genuinely excited about this. The whole Freeform change was done to get away from what the network used to be, so I can see this working out really well actually.

It's on Freeform? It's going to suck, too bad...

I don't think so. It is produced by ABC and Marvel Television, after all.

I just think they had this idea, Netflix wouldn't buy it, they wouldn't just handle their things to other networks, and there is Freeform with plenty of space to show it. Why not?

I'm also worried it's going to be watered-down and too teen-y. I wish it was a Netflix show instead.

I don't know, maybe the idea is to make it a bit teen-y compared to their other TV series. To diversify their TV shows a bit? (I don't know if that makes sense for the property, since I'm not really familiar with it.) Though this will most certainly have a lower budget than anything on ABC or Netflix, so that could be a little worrying.

I think I read somewhere that Netflix, at least for the time being, only wants two shows/seasons of Marvel properties released per year, so between Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, the Defenders mini-series, and a possible/rumored Punisher series, they probably don't have much room for anything else right now.

The first trailer, a TV spot, and a sneak peek have just debuted. It doesn't look half bad.
