Pete Docter is already developing a new feature at Pixar.
Pete Docter wrote:I have a pitch late this week to John Lasseter for a new movie.

As for Docter, his next great cartoon won’t be a follow up to this one. “I’m interested personally in moving on and doing something new. You design these characters for a specific arc. You never plan for sequels.”

Q: Inside Out did very well, are there any plans for Inside Out 2?
Jim Morris: Not right now. Pete [Docter] and Jonas [Rivera], the producer, have a new and equally weird idea that they are working on – so we will play through on that for a while! But I wouldn’t rule it out. The nice thing about working for Disney is that they don’t really dictate. I mean, I’m sure they would love to have another Inside Out, but it would be a long way off, if at all.

Docter's movie is still on track despite being promoted to CCO at Pixar.
“And the sad thing for all of us is the question, ‘Is Pete going to be able to keep making movies now?’ He’s made three of Pixar’s best movies, and he was working on another one – is that going to be given to somebody else?”
Docter told TheWrap that he plans to complete the film he’s currently working on. Then he added, with a grin, “At least, they haven’t told me otherwise.”

I hope he can complete his film. I wonder if Jennifer Lee will be able to finish Frozen 2. Maybe Chris Buck will have to direct the film alone.

Lasseter managed to direct Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2 and Cars, even when he was chief creative officer of Pixar, so it's not out of the question for Docter to continuing making his own movies while running the studio. It was more-so on Cars 2 where he was stretched thin and mostly using his iPad, because he was in charge of multiple departments at that point. Disney Animation and Pixar having separate chiefs now is smart.

^I was thinking of Lasseter's latest years. After he started overseeing both studios, he only directed Cars 2 and had to step down as director of Toy Story 4. But I wasn’t taking into account that Pete Docter and Jennifer Lee will only have to run one studio, so you’re right, maybe they can still work on their own projects at the same time. Though I imagine they probably won't direct movies as often as before.

I hope it is what it sounds like. A movie about one or more souls. Perhaps someone having an out-of-body experience and visiting the astral plane, perhaps literally encounter lost souls, ghosts and spirits.

Interesting title. I wonder if it might be changed at some point.

wait a minute... there was a leak/rumor posted on 4chan at least twice this year about a supposed new Pixar movie...something about two angels. I forgot what it was called. Everyone pretty much went LOLZ! and ignored it. Could this be that movie?!

The one-word title is typical of Pixar. It sounds intriguing.

It does ring a bell. Was it posted in this forum? I searched for it, but I couldn't find anything.

Wow, that sounds like it would fit this title. Perhaps two angels go on a roadtrip to understand what a soul is (since humans have them and they don't, or...something).

That sounds interesting. Pixar never seems to run out of good ideas.
I hope we get to see the pixar artists vision of what god,Heaven (and possibly hell) looks like.

When I read the thread title, I thought Soul as in “soul food” or “soul music.” I rather it be that than another Pixar preview of the afterlife, as much as I love Coco.

no but Ive seen it posted on 4chan twice. I think it might have called Heaven, or Spirits or something like that. I tried looking for it on Google but nothing came up other than Coco stuff. I personally dismissed it as a hoax b/c I have a hard time believing Disney would allow Pixar to do anything related to western Christianity. They're usually fine with most religions/afterlife as long as its pagan-esque like Coco or Moana (non-Christian religions basically.) They wouldn't even let Elsa say the word "God" during Let it Go.

Assuming the rumors are correct; it doesn't have to be about afterlife even if it is about a soul. Either way, except for Casper (which was mostly live action anyway) I can't remember anyone have made a proper animated feature about ghosts. So I wouldn't mind seeing one, no matter what studio who does it.
I have not seen Coco yet, but that movie focused a lot on music too based on the trailer. So it is probably no soul music. Or about soul food, since we already have Rottatouille. Actually, Coco and Rottatouille seems to have more than one thing in common.

It's weird, because I've never read that site but I remember having heard about that rumor.

That's true, but for some reason movies about angels are not that uncommon in Hollywood. Even Disney has one,
Angels in the Outfield. So, I think the rumor about the two angels could be true.

People would rather a movie about food or music than exploration of the essence or spirit of a person?!!! Ok well anyway Day of the Dead is both something pre-Hispanic and Christian.
