Re: Rate the Cinderellas You've Seen!
The Goodtimes Cinderella is really bad from designs to story to characters to songs to animation. The best part about it was Cinderella saying, "I will not cry" since it showed her trying to be strong. And maybe that singing so the Prince could hear her idea.
But Redadoodles, Sotiris posted about three films! Which one?

Cool! I've the sound of it and the costumes and actors look great! I doubt it will beat the charm of the original but who knows, it could be charming in its own right.

I like that A Cinderella Story: Starstruck has an evil stepbrother.
I don't like that now there are going to be two upcoming films about Cinderella from her evil stepsisters' point of view. Universe, what is up with all these Cinderella movies coming up?!!!

Re: Rate the Cinderellas You've Seen!
I watched I'll Cry Tomorrow a week or two ago (about Lillian Roth's alcoholism) and the actress playing Roth's mother in that film reminded me so much of the Stepmother from the Leslie Ann Warren version of R&H's Cinderella. I looked her up on Wikipedia and it was the same person. I had no idea the woman playing the stepmother in that version was a renowned actress. (I watched East of Eden a few months back and she was in that film, didn't even notice the resemblance for some reason.) She's obviously a good actress, I just never thought the Stepmother was any good in that version. I don't see that as a knock on the actress since Pat Carroll plays one of the stepsisters and I never really cared for the stepsisters in that version either (and you know I love Pat Carroll!). I wonder for people growing up when that version first came on TV if it was treated like a big event the way the Brandy version was for my generation. The whole thing feels very... I dunno, very low budget, like the people making it weren't that invested in it. I think LAW just shines against all odds in that version.
Listening to most often lately:
Måneskin ~ "Gossip"
Måneskin ~ "Timezone"
Carly Pearce ~ "Oklahoma"

Re: Rate the Cinderellas You've Seen!
I always thought Jo Van Fleet was fantastic as the stepmother in the 1965 Lesley Ann Warren version. When I was a kid she was appropriately mean and more powerful than Cinderella. Now that I'm older, I really appreciate how she can be so powerful with her voice, and her funny wide eyes when something doesn't go her way. She's the third best stepmother for me after Eleanor Audley and Angelica Huston. The stepsisters are funny to me now that I'm older. I must admit the film seems low-budget, but it is made-for-TV. The Brandy version got a bigger budget because Disney was producing it. Also, it was a huge deal because of the multiracial cast and many, many stars in it! Still, nothing beats Lesley's acting for the Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderellas!

Just a random thing, I was thinking about how in the 1965 Cinderella the movie mentions dragons and unicorns, to be even more fairy tale, and the stepmother tells Prunella to rub unicorn oil into her knee to make it stop creaking. So does that make the stepfamily more evil to buy oil from murdered unicorns?

To me The Slipper and the Rose is the fourth best Cinderella movie ever made. Maybe fifth. But still, it's one of the best. And that's saying something because there are a lot of good Cinderella movies.

Some of the costumes are made of cheap material and some of the foreign princess headwear is bad, but I actually think most of the costumes are great.

Re: Rate the Cinderellas You've Seen!
I didn't know where best to put this, but I watch the 1965 Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella almost once every week, because it's so well-acted, and is so purely the fairy tale in terms of how the story is told. And it's not too long. But I was thinking about how clever some of the writing is.Cinderella is afraid of her stepmother beating her if she finds out she spoke or interacted with anyone while she was away, yet she still does gives the Prince water and tells her stepmother. That's very kind and brave. Then, Cinderella gives the Princs water when her stepmother forbade her from seeing the Prince. If Cinderella had failed, and the Prince didn't recognize her as the girl he fell in love with, she could have been in big trouble from her stepmother. Maybe she would have even gotten kicked out of her home as a consequence. That may be doubtful, but she would have gotten beat and probably more work than ever. It just shows even the "weakest" Cinderella was actually rather incredibly kind and brave. That's why the 1965 Cinderella is one of the very best ones.
