He's flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and he’s seen a lot of strange stuff ... and now audiences are about to see a little bit more of the life of Han Solo, intergalactic smuggler, Millennium Falcon pilot, reluctant good guy and all-round badass.
The new film, to be released in 2018, is part of Disney’s all-out effort to reboot the Star Wars franchise after buying the rights from George Lucas in 2012.

Alden Ehrenreich. Alden. Ehrenreich. Remember that name, because the young actor was just cast in the most coveted open role currently available in Hollywood. Now we’ll finally see how Han met Chewie, and maybe even settle once and for all who shot first.
Last month, Deadline reported Ehrenreich was the frontrunner to nab the role after impressing in the Joel and Ethan Cohen-directed Hail, Caesar! But with more than 2,500 actors considered for the role, Ehrenreich emerged as the favorite, beating out some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Now, the relatively unknown actor is primed to become the next Star Wars megastar.

It looks like Kathleen Kennedy uses the same methods as John Lasseter. Didn't something similar happen with Rogue One? I don't remember if it was official or just rumors, but I think the director was practically replaced after filming had finished and the new one was responsible for the reshoots and the editing.

That is what happened with Rogue One- a new director brought in for the reshoots and some additional scenes.

But Gareth Edwards was still involved and worked alongside Lucasfilm and Tony Gilroy on getting the film together. In this case, it seems Phil Lord and Christopher Miller didn't like the ideas Lucasfilm were proposing and what the studio was demanding of them. And it's not like these two aren't team players. They both gave credit to former Sony Pictures head Amy Pascal for giving them ideas that improved "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs." They were also willing to change a controversial character in their television series "Clone High" before the show was cancelled. They can work with executives and take notes. There just seemed to be a major clash of opinions here.

OK, the situation with Rogue One was a bit different then. Anyway, I think Disney is probably controlling the production of the films a lot because they want to make sure they’re successful. That’s understandable in a way, because Star Wars has a big fanbase they have to please, and also they’ve paid a big sum for Lukasfilm and they want to get their money back. The films need to be successful, too, if they want to continue expanding the franchise.
Well, if that makes the films better, is OK with me, but I fear they can end up seeming too calculated and lacking its own personality.
