So I just watched the trailer for an upcoming Hindi film called "Khoobsurat". It's a remake of an older movie of the same name. And apparently, it's a Walt Disney Pictures production!

Did not know Disney was going this route, but apparently they have planned this since a while back.

Also of minor interest, the lead actor Fawad Khan is ever so gorgeous is entering the Bollywood, I guess "market", with this film. (He's done Pakistani dramas in the past.) I'll probably watch it just for him, honestly

Edit: Plot synopsis:
Having created and celebrated fairy tale romances and family entertainers world over like no other, Disney brings India’s first modern day Disney fairytale- Khoobsurat. Befitting the title, the film top-lines actor and international fashion icon Sonam Kapoor, who is set to take centrestage as country’s first Disney Girl with the film.
While Sonam will essay the role of fresh faced, charming and effervescent Milli, an endearing misfit in a royal setting, Khoobsurat will also mark the big Bollywood debut of Pakistani heartthrob and the most popular star of his generation, Fawad Khan, who will reprise the role of a straight jacketed royal prince in this romantic-comedy

"Disney is known world over for heartwarming stories that entertain the whole family, and with Khoobsurat, India will get its first modern-day Disney fairytale. Sonam embodies the character with such ease and panache that it makes this fairytale come to life,” says Amrita Pandey, VP and Head of Marketing and Distribution, Studios, Disney India.

“We are really excited to collaborate with Disney India on Khoobsurat. The movie will be a magical love story between two opposites set in a royal family and a complete feel good entertainer, that will take you through a roller-coaster of emotions like all Disney films do,” says co-producer Rhea Kapoor.

Khoobsurat’ is produced by Walt Disney Pictures in association with Anil Kapoor Film Company, is directed by Shashanka Ghosh.

I know this is off-topic, but I would rather seen an (other) animated feature set in India. Although Disney has already has made "The Jungle Book", it's not so representative of the Indian culture.

Disney India is really kicking-off "on its own". They remade several Disney Channel series already, and now they're remaking films. Way to go!

Actually, Disney was set to do an Indian version of "The Nightingale", but after delays, being switched from hand drawn to CG, etc. it ultimately got shelved. Basically the plot would have been a "human becomes magically altered" flick; this film in particular would have had the main character become the titular nightingale.

Personally, I don't like how some of the few diverse films Disney has (i.e., Emperor's New Groove, Brother Bear, Princess and the Frog) often feature a human becoming an animal for most of their film. Just kinda seems unfair to literally dehumanize what few diverse characters they have. With films like Moana coming in the future, I have hope the situation can be slowly rectified.

I digress, big time.

Anyone actually saw this movie?
I have ordered mine from India and I´m rather excited to see if it is good or not - some of the past films co-made by Disney in India have given me a mixed feeling, so...you never know!

I have a copy...it's nice, charming, and sweet but to be honest my favourite local Disney India film is still Do Dooni Chaar...
Later this year they have Jagga Jasoos coming out...not that interested in ABCD 2 but next year they have Mohenjo Daro and that will be one to watch out for! Cast and crew is the same as Joddha Akbar one of the most epic Indian films ever made..I am watching updates on Mohenjo Daro closely....
